  Job Summary

  Under direction, is responsible for investigating, recording, and/or responding for maintenance, repair or televising of the City public infrastructure and makes preliminary determination of type of work required. Working conditions are primarily outside and in underground drainage systems with confined spaces. Outdoor environment with frequent exposure to temperature extremes, traffic construction dust; damp/wet surfaces, overhead power lines, animal/insect bites, high noise, oily surfaces, liquid asphalt and lime. Exercises no supervision.

  Work Hours

  6:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m., Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday; May require working emergency response or inclement weather events. At the Department's discretion, the work hours/days may be subject to change based on business need.

  Essential Job Functions

  Inspects underground drainage infrastructure using Close-Circuit Television (CCTV) and/or visual inspections of drainage infrastructure.

  Performs drainage locating and transfers information to site maps or mapping software.

  Gathers and reports GPS data.

  Performs basic maintenance of televising equipment.

  Conducts site visits to assess requests.

  Respond to situations where maintenance or repair of public infrastructures may need to be performed, frequently lifting and carrying equipment weighing 25 pounds.

  Determines ownership and responsibility for areas in need of maintenance or repair.

  Determines type of maintenance or repair to be completed.

  Ensures compliance with safety and equipment standards, standard operating procedures and service level agreements.

  Coordinates with appropriate personnel for maintenance and repairs. Plans, coordinates, and controls work zone traffic.

  Prepares reports and maintains necessary records of work scheduled and performed.

  May have to perform minor maintenance and repairs when applicable.

  Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

  Job Requirements

  High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).

  Three (3) years of experience in field construction and maintenance, one (1) of which needs to be with pipe video inspection programs.)

  Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Ability to operate televising equipment.

  Ability to troubleshoot and use video and electrical test equipment.

  Working knowledge of computers and various software applications.

  Ability to read as-builts and site plans.

  Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports.

  Ability to work on confined spaces.

  Ability to communicate successfully in both verbal and written correspondence with internal and external customers.

  Working knowledge of various types of drainage infrastructure.

  Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  Knowledge of closed circuit television and scoreboard systems, their capabilities, set-up, and maintenance.

  Knowledge of electronics, including repair and maintenance procedures and techniques.

  Ability to utilize electronic test equipment.

  Ability to interpret formatted schematics or blueprints.

  Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.

  Knowledge of stream restoration, vegetation control, street construction and maintenance.

  Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and materials used in the maintenance and construction of drainage ditch systems.

  Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in the demolition and construction of concrete drain structures.

  Knowledge of sign installation procedures, techniques, and methods.

  Knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair for daily operations.

  Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.

  Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.

  Knowledge of hazards and safety measures related to maintenance.

  Skill in utilizing a personal computer, associated software, and a two-way radio.

  Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  Ability to maintain accurate records.

  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

  with City staff and the general public.

  Ability to utilize all tools and equipment needed to perform daily functions.

  Ability to estimate necessary time, materials and supplies needed to complete tasks.

  Ability to plan, organize and develop the work of a group of employees.

  Ability to exercise independent judgment.

  Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
