  QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  The English Language Institute at the University of Delaware (https://sites.udel.edu/eli/) seeks applications from outstanding ESL professionals to fill two full-time, continuing-track faculty positions, effective August 16, 2024. Positions may be offered at the instructor rank or, given suitable qualifications, assistant professor rank.

  Full-time faculty members typically teach up to twenty contact hours per week in one or more of the ELI’s varied programs, which include:

  the intensive English program

  Academic Transitions (a credit-bearing English for Academic Purposes pathways program for undergraduates)

  graduate conditional admission program

  short-term language and culture programs

  the Evening Program (serving, among others, Amazon employees and the local refugee resettlement agency)

  teacher-training programs

  the MA-TESL program

  The successful candidate must hold at least a master's degree in TESL/TEFL, or a master's degree in a related field with documented coursework for credit in the areas of linguistics, culture and society, educational foundations, second language pedagogy, second-language assessment, and language teaching practicum. In addition, at least three years of relevant classroom experience at the time of the application, substantial expertise in English for Academic Purposes and/or teacher training, and the ability to teach in person on campus are required. Candidates must demonstrate excellent oral and written English communication skills. Preference will be given to those who can also demonstrate experience in one or more of these areas: course design, curriculum development, or assessment; K-12 teaching or teacher preparation; living and/or teaching outside the U.S.; and/or learning an additional language. Candidates may also have a record of research, relevant publications, and/or presentations at national or international academic and professional conferences. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

  Continuing-track faculty at the University of Delaware have teaching-focused appointments. Faculty are also encouraged to conduct research, publish, and present at national and international academic and professional conferences, for which support may be provided. Service is also expected, including serving on various institute, college, and university committees. Candidates should also be strongly committed to high-quality instruction in a diverse, student-centered environment and be able to work with students with various learning needs and backgrounds.   The English Language Institute at UD: TheEnglish Language Institute (https://sites.udel.edu/eli/) at the University of Delaware is a unit within the College of Arts and Sciences.
