Summary: Organizes, maintains, and operates Model Shop and equipment in support of Technology Center Goals. Accurately produces machine parts, assemblies and sheet metal components in a safe and efficient manner by performing the following duties: Responsibilities: Creates machined parts, assemblies and sheet metal components using blueprints, sketches or verbal direction. Reviews sketches, drawings, photographs, mating parts, verbal and written descriptions to determine metal type, fabrication method, fastening and assembly points, raw stock, fastener sizes, hole locations, part dimensions, fabrication sequence, methods, and procedures. Operates and maintains a wide variety of machine tools in a safe and efficient manner including; milling machines, lathes, drill presses, punch presses, sheet metal shears and brakes, welding and brazing equipment, etc. Provides recommendations to Management regarding procedures, process improvements and equipment upgrades. Maintains cleanliness of the Model Shop area and ensures proper handling of tools, equipment, and stock to prevent loss. Ensures safe and efficient operation of Model Shop through the training of personnel, organization of equipment, and management of toolcrib and Technology Center supplies. Trains other employees in day to day procedures. Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five years related experience required or combination of higher education and experience. Two year technical degree in a related field preferred.
