  Position Summary:

  The primary duty of this position will be to conduct germinable seedbank assays of 50 soil samples from farms across New York. This will be conducted in a greenhouse setting that will involve exposure to sunlight and warm temperatures. The successful candidate will need to learn to identify all of the plants that emerge from the soil samples. Books, apps, and on-the-job training will be provided for this purpose. Some plants will need to be transplanted and maintained over the course of the growing season. Excellent records will need to be maintained regarding the dates and quantities of each emerged species.

  The successful candidate will also need to photograph each species with a macro lens and conduct a review of the biology and ecology of each weed species to inform management recommendations to each farmer. Other activities will include assisting with IPM demonstrations in conifers, squash, and other crops.

  This is a one-year, 40 hour per week position with the possibility of transition to a full-time position contingent upon funding and performance.

  Required Qualifications:

  Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.Demonstrated skill in understanding cultural differences.Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.

  Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) in IPM, Agricultural Sciences, Horticulture, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Weed Sciences or in an associated field. One year of additional relevant experience. Interest and curiosity about plants and agriculture. Careful observation skills and attention to detail. Ability to collect data in a consistent manner and maintain accurate records. Ability to communicate comfortably and effectively through verbal, written, and visual channels. Must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Knowledge of plant identification, crop rotation, or agroecological systems.
