Environmental Scientist / Environmental Planner | New York City, NY
VHB's New York City office, named to Crain's New York Business 100 Best Places to Work in New York City, is seeking an Environmental Planner/ Environmental Scientist to join our growing Site Investigation and Remediation practice.
The successful candidate will serve as the team leader on projects requiring the preparation of E-designation and environmental mitigation/remediation compliance documents as well as compliance with City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) and State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). Duties include assisting with the development and implementation of environmental strategies for development of real estate, institutional and/or governmental projects, project management, business development, and client relationship management. The Environmental Scientist / Environmental Planner will also be responsible for assisting in proposal preparation and mentoring of staff.
Responsibilities
Manage and participate in Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, remediation/mitigation plan development, remedial action implementation, and remedial closure reports subject to review and approval by the New York City Office of Environmental Remediation
Manage and participate in the preparation CEQR and SEQRA environmental impact statements, environmental assessment statements and similar environmental review Assist clients with the administration of CEQR and SEQRA processes Provide oversight, direction, mentoring and ongoing open communication with staffParticipate in the QA/QC processAssist and participate in public hearings and public meetings Maintain ongoing communication with clients to communicate project status, changes in conditions or other key points of information Prepare project proposals and participate in business development activities with key clientsSkills & Abilities
Strategic thinker and problem solverExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsTeam-oriented with strong capability to motivate othersMust be a highly motivated self-starter with interest in growing the environmental practice throughout the region Demonstrate experience with presenting before reviewing agencies and community boardsMust demonstrate ability in collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates Qualifications
BS in environmental science, engineering, geology, planning, natural resources, urban planning or related field with a master's degree preferred3-5 years of professional experience in environmental science, engineering, environmental planning, or related field experienceClient management and business development experience is a plusExperience with CEQR and/or SEQRA compliance preferredExperience working on development projects in the New York City metro area is a plusExperience and demonstrated success in navigating public approvals processes and agency relationships is strongly desiredOur best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City, NY is $77,000-$90,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
