  This position will be primarily working in the Western Slope and mountain areas around the Grand Junction, Colorado area.

  This position is only for current permanent residents of the State of Colorado.

  Description of Job

  About the work unit:

  This work unit exists to protect human health and the environment by assuring the safe management of solid waste at solid waste disposal sites and facilities through: ensuring proper storage, treatment and disposal of solid wastes; remediating contaminated facilities and sites; conducting inspections; and providing outreach to industry, governmental entities, and interested stakeholders via guidance development, training and technical and regulatory assistance. In addition, the unit collects, analyzes and reports on data associated with solid waste flow and materials management, recycling, and reuse within Colorado.

  What you'll be doing:

  The position exists to implement the regulatory compliance requirements of the waste tire program. The waste tire program includes periodic registration of waste tire facilities, periodic issuance of decals to waste tire facilities and hauling vehicles, inspections of waste tire facilities, developing training for fire departments for response to tire fires and training for law enforcement agencies in the enforcement of waste tire regulations, assist in maintaining an abatement list for illegal waste tire disposal areas throughout the state, assists in developing annual reports to the Solid and Hazardous Waste Commission and Legislature, developing and maintaining pertinent information on the Division's web page including an online complaint system, and working with the Department of Public Safety in reviewing fire safety plans submitted by waste tire facilities.

  Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

  To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate that you meet one of the following options outlining the requirements needed for consideration.

  OPTION ONE:

  Five (5) years of full-time work experience investigating and remediating contaminated properties, conducting technical reviews, and authoring documents that demonstrate a knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements.

  OPTION TWO:

  A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, geology, environmental science, engineering (chemical, environmental), industrial hygiene, or a related field.

  AND

  One (1) year of experience investigating and remediating contaminated properties, conducting technical reviews, and authoring documents that demonstrate a knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements.

  OPTION THREE:

  Masters from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, geology, environmental science, engineering (chemical, environmental), industrial hygiene, or a related field may substitute for the professional experience on a year-for-year basis. (Substitution)

  Substitutions

  A combination of professional experience in biology, chemistry, geology, environmental science, engineering, as described in the minimum qualifications above, which provided the same kind, amount and level of knowledge acquired in the required education, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree.

  Conditions of Employment

  A pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Human Resources office with an official disposition of any charges. As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit to a background check if offered the position.

  This position requires in-state (primarily on the Western Slope and mountain regions) travel of up to 50% during the year for site inspections.
