Summary Per 5 CFR 335.103(c)(3)(v), this is a non-competitive reassignment opportunity open to those qualified who hold (or have held) a position equivalent to (or higher than) an ND-4 (GS-12/13 equivalent) on a permanent basis in the competitive service. You will serve as an Engineer or Scientist in the NUWC Division Newport Employee Rotational Program in the Cybersecurity Track and be assigned to the Cybersecurity Division (Code 255). Responsibilities You will participate in cross-departmental tasking within the Cybersecurity Track and gain knowledge in a variety of cybersecurity disciplines while providing engineering support across the full life cycle for enterprise and tactical systems. You will rotate through three positions within Codes 10, 25, 34 and 85 (not necessarily in that order) lasting approximately six months each for a total of 1.5 years. You will communicate project status to a broad spectrum of peer and senior stakeholders. In Code 10 you will expand knowledge of NUWCDIVNPT enterprise systems, tools, policies, and processes as well as technical specifics as related to cybersecurity requirements and solutions. In Code 10 you will work with and support internal and external stakeholders in the accomplishment of NUWCDIVNPT enterprise project goals and milestones. In Code 25 you will expand knowledge of Undersea Warfare (USW) Combat Systems, architectures, tools, policies, and processes as well as technical specifics as related to cybersecurity requirements and solutions. In Code 25 you will work with and support internal and external stakeholders in the accomplishment of USW Combat System project goals and milestones. In Code 34 you will expand knowledge of USW Electromagnetic and communication systems, architectures, tools, policies, and processes as well as technical specifics as related to cybersecurity requirements and solutions. In Code 34 you will work with and support internal and external stakeholders in the accomplishment of USW Electromagnetic and Communication systems project goals and milestones. In Code 85 you will expand knowledge of USW Torpedo systems, architectures, tools, policies, and processes as well as technical specifics as related to cybersecurity requirements and solutions. In Code 85 you will work with and support internal and external stakeholders in the accomplishment of USW Torpedo System project goals and milestones. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), a Computer Engineer (0854-series), an Electronics Engineer (0855-series), a Mathematician (1520-series), or a Computer Scientist (1550-series), depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. The total coursework described above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite; OR 1550-Computer Science Series: A bachelor's or higher degree in computer science; or a bachelor's or higher degree with at least 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
