  DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

  This position is only open to Colorado state residents.ORThis position is open to Colorado residents and non-residents applicants.

  This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State ofColorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

  New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly payperiods in a year.

  DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

  Description of JobAbout the PositionThis position is in CDOT s Region 5, Alamosa Materials Lab. This positionwill operate with greater independence and, as an EPST I, perform thefollowing under the guidance of a Professional Engineer: The position preparesengineering plans, specifications, quantities and cost estimates forpreconstruction phase of roadway projects; assures quality and consistency ofproject design plans and procedures by applying good technical judgment and awide variety of design and construction manuals, spreadsheets, forms, designaids, computer software, and Department procedures; produces cost estimates ofhighway projects, and check all stages of highway construction plans forassurances and compliances with required federal and state policies andstandards.

  Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, thefollowing:

  Processes materials samples delivered from the CDOT projects and the Regionsand performs tests listed in the CDOT Field Materials Manual in accordancewith the applicable American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM),American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)and Colorado Procedures.Uses computer programs such as MicroStation and lnRoads to complete highwaydesign drawings for smaller and/or less complex projects, ensuring that theymeet CDOT and AASHTO design criteria, including design horizontal and verticalalignments that are both economical and efficient in achieving the improvementgoals of the project;Drafts construction plan sets including: notes, details, tabulations, plan andprofile, and cross section sheets. Incorporate plan sheets from other sourcesinto the plan package;Performs material tests and determine if the materials are valid toincorporate into the project;Collects all the applicable material certifications and needs to meet theproject specifications;Applies CDOT M&S standards and project details, as well as standard specialprovisions, to be included in the construction project plan set and compilesproject special provisions requested by Specialty Units;Performs general maintenance on testing equipment, including cleaning,lubrication and repair as ne ded. Installation of new equipment.Creates basic design elements and performs preliminary calculations requiredto draw various design solutions, which are then presented to the ProfessionalEngineer for review;Prepares for and help facilitate pre-construction meetingsCommunicates with Right of Way, Survey, Environmental, Materials, Bridge,Geotechnical, Traffic, Maintenance, and other Specialty Units to provideinformation such as scope, schedule, budget, and milestones which arenecessary for these groups to determine the project requirements andrecommendations pertaining to their specialties;Obtains information such as Materials Recommendation, TSMO (TransportationSystems Management and Operations), Utilities, ROW/Survey, Limits ofDisturbance, and Environmental needed to complete roadway design ensuring theconcerns of Specialty Units and outside agencies are addressed;Uses earthwork and spreadsheet computer software to calculate and tabulatequantities of materials required to complete construction of projects underthe direction of the Engineer;;Utilizes AASHTOWare - Transport, which is the official records holder of theEngineer's Estimate;Assists the Project Manager in creating a project file and input project
