Salary Grade – NC11Recruitment Range $42,464 to $74,313
Employee in this position acts as Engineering support providing documentation and field work to support engineering practices and principals for decision making in Division 5. Employee will be responsible for assessing crash data to address safety concerns. Other duties include preparation and administration of various purchase order contracts and assisting with collecting data for traffic speed studies, various sign requests and field information for signal requests. This position responds to the concerns of citizens and other governmental departments in a timely manner. Employee will be responsible for conducting routine inspections for compliance involving purchase order contracts. Employee is expected to program, deploy, and download electronic traffic data collectors. Employee is expected to work independently with minimal supervision. Employee must have excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with contractors, the general public, and other government agencies. Employee must have the ability to work outside for extended periods in variable weather conditions on uneven terrain. Employee may be required to work at any time, including nights and weekends, and holidays. Employee may be assigned other work and responsibilities as necessary to support the goals and objectives of the unit. Employee must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required. Employee will be responsible for GIS data collection, maintenance and management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Experience with NCDOT design guidelines and engineering software applications is essential
Knowledge of both maintenance and construction operations within NCDOT
Experience with effectively using verbal and nonverbal skills to express complex technical and/or program concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, organized and persuasive manner.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
