  The Role

  This Senior Engineering Technician position on the E14 Submarine Fleet Support (SFS) Team will be supporting Boise overhaul and in-service repair of 688 Los Angeles Class Submarines. Join a highly engaged and diverse team of Engineers and Engineering Technicians who make a living by solving unique and challenging problems.

  The selected individual will function with minimal supervision and provide technical leadership and direction for specific engineering projects encompassing a variety of Machinery systems including Weapon Systems, Steering & Diving, Propulsion Plant, Auxiliary Machinery, and HVAC. The individual will be expected to review product drawings, apply engineering principles, and interact with construction trades to resolve engineering problems in a manner that meets cost and schedule objectives. As a team lead, the individual will review and assist development of work by less-senior team members to ensure high quality products.

  The SFS Team has hands-on opportunities to support ongoing work at in-yard and outside-yard machine shops in addition to supporting in-yard Submarines. The team also participates in review of Fleet Support procedure changes and disseminates new requirements.

  Typical responsibilities will include:

  Develop and review Technical Work Documents and related supporting documents for execution of Trades work.

  Provide deck-plate troubleshooting and issue resolution for complex shipboard systems.

  Review Special Emphasis Program (SUBSAFE, Level 1 Material) requirements to determine implementation of necessary controls.

  Must Have

  Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience

  One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  NNS Apprentice School graduate

  Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate

  High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

  High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

  Nice to Have

  SUBSAFE/REC experience is preferred

  Preferred Qualifications

  Excellent verbal communication skills and technical writing ability to provide concise technical directions for craftsmen.

  Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously, and to prioritize work to meet schedule, cost, and quality objectives.

  Experience resolving construction issues with trades.

  Expertise in resolving technical problems across multiple disciplines.

  Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team and also independently with minimal oversight.

  Experience with in-service Submarine work and construction is preferred.

  Knowledge of the various Special Emphasis Programs is preferred.

  Excellent MS Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
