Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers is currently seeking a talented engineering student for a summer internship. Under the guidance of multiple experienced engineers, the successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the developer interconnection process and delivery of renewable energy onto the electrical grid. Responsibilities will range from interconnection application support through the detailed design of low to extra-high-voltage renewable collector substations to include one-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation layout, etc. The position may also include performing design calculations in accordance with industry standards such as IEEE, NEC, NESC, ASCE, etc., assisting senior engineers with QA/QC design checks, assisting design engineers with design efforts for renewable collector substation civil/structural, physical, protection/control design and the transmission gen-tie civil/structural design.
In addition to working under the guidance of experienced team members, the selected intern will also participate in sessions designed to develop your skills and provide networking opportunities. Those sessions include:
Professional Development sessions focused on resume writing, interview tips, building a LinkedIn profile, and more.
Early Talent Speaker Series where leaders speak to interns about their role, vision for the company, and career path, offer career advice, and a Q&A session.
Fun Friday activities where interns company-wide join to network and have some fun while doing it.
Required Education/Experience
Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in an electrical or civil/structural engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
Ability to work in design teams, be self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn new topics
Candidate is interested in consulting engineering and the renewable energy industry
Must have a strong command of the English language; experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
Successful completion of junior-level courses in power system analysis and/or power system protection is a plus for an electrical engineering student.
Successful completion of junior-level courses in structural analysis, concrete, steel, soils, foundations, and surveying for a civil/structural engineering student.
Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for the successful completion of tasks.
Prior internship and/or related engineering experience is a plus.
Students who have passed or are scheduled to take the FE/EIT exam will be strongly considered for this position.
Familiarity with design, drafting or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, etc. as well as Microsoft Excel is beneficial.
