We are on the lookout for an experienced and qualified Employee Relations Specialist to join our awesome team in Cape Town.
The main purpose of this role is support the Head: People Labour Relations in providing an effective and holistic professional employee relations service to the Organisation as well as handle dispute and discipline in the company with a view to promote sound employee/ employer relations.
This role will report into the Head: People & Labour Relations and will provide sound employee and labour relations services across the countries in which Mukuru operates, through the provision of ER (Employee Relations) knowledge, implementation of relevant employment and labour policies in accordance with the Mukuru Strategy.
The Employee Relations Specialist will implement employee related operational procedures and processes fairly across Mukuru and its operations. They will work closely with leadership teams across the business and the wider Human Capital team, to drive projects and programs aligned to the ER strategy and key objectives. The Employee Relations Specialist must have a flexible approach to problem solving, whilst ensuring adherence to policies and best legal & business practices and provide logical solutions for the organisation.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but is not limited to):
Provide inputs to the employee relations strategy and plan, with a focus on developing a positive ER climate during complex organisational change
Adapt and implement policies in line with statutory and regulatory frameworks
Implement processes and standard operating procedures within the context of Mukuru strategy
Ensure compliance and consistency in the execution and administration of Employee Relations cases
Proposed amendments/ adjustments to employment conditions and benefits, through continuous monitoring of changed in labour legislation and compliance, across countries
Draft legally complaint documentation required necessary for engaging with the CCMA, employees, management, etc.
Drive external engagements with legal advisors / private arbitrators/ CCMA on behalf of the business when necessary
Equip and support line and human capital to manage employees' contracts and employee related legal documentations
Research, prepare and facilitate disciplinary hearings, poor work performance processes, mediations, and management of discipline within the organisation as required
Plan and implement ER projects and programs in allocated areas of the business
Research and prepare required information to enable negotiation strategies in line with business requirements across different countries
Carry-out workplace investigations and recommend resolutions to employeeproblems, issues, and concerns
Partners with various department heads and management to evaluate the merits and consequences of corrective action to ensure a highly competent workforce
Identify and timeously address functional related problems and opportunities
Advise and support operational HC (Human Capital) team, providing employee relations and employment policy and process, advice, guidance, insight, training, and expertise to ensure that HC team can provide employee relations and policy advice, interventions, and solutions to meet organisational objectives
Partner with People Business Partners to ensure policies and processes are delivered correctly and in line with service level agreements and KPIs
Keep abreast of country legislation and effectively interpret it, to ensure organisational compliance in allocated business areas
Provide specialist support and advise on employee related issues, grievance, and dispute resolutions to leaders
Provide specialist support to the Head: People & Labour Relations to implement employee engagements structures/forums related to ER matters
Plan and roll-out employee relations training, on policies and procedures, across the business, in different countries to minimise labour disputes and ensure sound labour relations
Adhere to approved budgets when rolling out projects/programs in across countries
Provide training and development to facilitate constructive employment relationships
Monitor and manage own time
Adhere to performance management process and ensure timeous reviews with line manager
Attend all required training courses for new products
Maintain and continuously improve on knowledge of relevant legislation that impact own work
Manage own professional and self-development
Key Requirements:
Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
LLB degree or equivalent (Essential)
Project management (advantageous)
5 years' Employee & Labour Relations experience (Essential)
Experience working in a multi-national, across African, and EU organisation (Essential)
CCMA (Conciliation Mediation & Arbitration), Labour Court and Collective Bargaining experience
Disciplinary and labour process management experience
Knowledge of SA labour legislation (EEA, BCEA, LRA)
Knowledge of employee and labour legislation across African regions that Mukuru operates, including EU
Knowledge of ER principles, processes, and procedures
