Summary The Electrician Leader is located within the Seattle Electric Shop off the Maintenance and Operations area of Facilities Management Service; leads journeyman electricians, electrician workers and any other person temporarily assigned; called on to advise supervisors of Electric Shop and others, on matters related to the field; assignments are completed on both interior and exterior surfaces. Approximately 50 buildings and/or 3 million square feet require maintenance. Responsibilities Major duties include but are not limited to: Work along with other worker and sets a good and safe rate of production. Spot check work of all shop personnel to assure quality, accuracy and compliance, local, and facility standards. Instruct new employees, conduct on the job training, and work along with journeyman demonstrating proper procedures. Interpret, design, and apply building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams and engineering drawings. Assist in writing accident reports, suggestions and/or work simplification. Maintain and make repairs to electric motors ranging in size from fractional to 100 horsepower motors. Provide updated data on all items under the preventative maintenance program. Perform new construction, including bending and installation of new lighting fixtures, switch boxes, receptacles, circuit breakers, disconnects, and new wiring cable. Meet or exceed customer quality/quantity expectations. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am- 4:00 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician Leader/PD413420 Physical Requirements: Work requires lifting, carrying, and moving heavy loads in excess of 50 pounds, stooping, climbing, standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, etc. Often times works in cramped spaces. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard to reach places. Requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Working Conditions: Subject to working in varying temperatures while performing assignments in poorly ventilated areas and /or under adverse weather. Additionally, may be required to perform assigned duties in a confined space, where air circulation is poor or nonexistent. Heavy physical exertion may be required at times and climbing to considerable heights may be necessary while making inspections or Management instructions. The incumbent may be exposed to normal hazards found in construction areas, high or low temperatures, or adverse weather. The incumbent will work in poorly ventilated areas, hot spots, cold spots and very cramped quarters. Education Additional Information Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
