People of all ages and backgrounds come to the Y learn to swim, for water safety education, and to meet their health and wellness goals in the pool. Lifeguards are essential to ensuring a safe environment for those individuals. The lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas. (6am - 11am)

　　KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

　　Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area

　　Know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Complete related reports as required

　　Maintain effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff

　　Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area

　　Perform equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed

　　Check the pool for hazardous conditions

　　Perform chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and take appropriate action

　　QUALIFICATIONS

　　Experience

　　1-2 years' related experience preferredEducation

　　Some high school required

　　Coursework in lifeguarding and/or water safety preferred

　　Certification

　　Lifeguard certification required

　　Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration required
