Position SummaryThe Director of Strategic Procurement is responsible for shaping the future of Casella Waste Systems, Inc. by leading the strategic procurement initiative. The incumbent is responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies to support our sustainability and environmental goals and drive cost-efficiency. This position will be responsible for the successful integration of acquisitions along with recruiting and developing a high-performing team of Category Managers to drive excellence in procurement operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelops and executes a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with the company’s financial objectives.Identifies opportunities for cost reduction, sustainability improvements, and supply chain optimization while championing sustainable procurement practices that align with the company's environmental goals.Ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in procurement practices.Oversees the management of procurement categories, including supplier selection, negotiation, and contract management.Analyzes market trends, supplier performance, and risks to make informed decisions that benefit the organization.Integrates and monitors sustainability criteria into supplier evaluations and selection processes.Conducts regular cost analyses to identify opportunities for cost reduction and develops and implement cost-saving initiatives and cost control measures.Ensures that procurement processes are streamlined and efficient.Identifies and mitigates potential risks in the supply chain while developing contingency plans to address supply chain disruptions.Monitors global market dynamics and geopolitical factors that may impact procurement.Prepares and present regular reports to senior management on procurement performance, cost savings, and sustainability initiatives.Recruits, onboards, and develops a team of Category Managers with expertise in various procurement categories and fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the procurement team.Manages and provides leadership to team members by effectively communicating, establishing clear goals and objectives, coaching team members on achieving goals, and ensuring access to training and development opportunities that assist employees in attaining the necessary skills to achieve team and corporate results.Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.Ensures compliance with all company, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws regarding employment and employee safety.Education, Experience & QualificationsThe successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management or related field. Minimum 8years of progressive leadership experience. Proven success in strategic procurement and supply chain management. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.Strong understanding of sustainable procurement practices. Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in procurement software and analytics tools. Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations in procurement and supply chain management. Legally eligible to work in the US and travel up to 50%.
