The Arc Eastern Connecticut places a premium on candidates who share a “passion” for the mission of providing opportunities for equality and inclusion for people who have Intellectual and Development Disabilities (IDD). The Arc ECT team believes that individuals with IDD can master essential skills and tasks within a reasonable time period for that individual.
The Grant and Publications Director is responsible for identifying and applying for various grants that meet the organization’s needs, overseeing the grant application process from beginning to end. He/She will also provide financial information and advice for grant applications and provide administrative support and coordination to researchers and staff throughout the duration of the award. He/She is also responsible for communicating the purposes and philosophy of the organization to the community-at-large and, specifically, to potential clients, employees, volunteers, and donors, by making effective use of a variety of approaches including, but not limited to: agency newsletters; annual reports; annual appeals; press releases, etc. The Grants & Publications Director reports to the Chief Development & Marketing Officer.

Essential Job Requirements:
Prepares all grant applications, making sure that applications focus on the conditions, restrictions, and goals of the sponsoring organization.
Negotiates with grant sponsors and seeks to ensure that both parties have understanding and agreement about special details.
Oversees administration of projects to ensure that operations conform to the terms of the agreement, and that maximum efficiency is achieved.
Oversees writing and reporting for all agency grants local, state, national and federal.
Performs required research to obtain comprehensive understanding of the necessity of following proper procedures in achieving project goals.
Monitors financial administration of grants to ensure that proper documentation is submitted for expenditures and that requests for funds are made within time limitations specified.
Works with the Department Directors and the CEO to perfect a vision statement defining the purposes and philosophy of the organization.
Works with the Chief Development and Marketing Officer and CEO to develop a strategic long-range plan consistent with the vision statement. Analyzes appropriate ways to bring this message to the various target groups.
Plans effective use of media through press releases and participation in community activities.
Organizes activities to recruit new volunteers and events designed to reward faithful volunteers.
Prepares written material to support fund-raising efforts.
Research potential sources of grant money and works with the director to prepare grant proposals.
Works to minimize damage from any type of immediate problem by utilizing principles of crisis management.

Ensures confidentiality as required by law, The Arc and DDS policies and procedures which include keeping records, conversations, correspondence (regarding program participants and staff) confidential.
Remains current in knowledge of issues and trends in finance and human services.

Is able to work with limited supervision; self-supervises meeting of all deadlines, grant reporting and publications deadlines for the agency.
Advocates for and protects participants’ rights in accordance with Arc policies and procedures.

Maintains a mature and positive attitude when dealing with program participants, staff, families, the public and outside representatives.
Keeps CEO and CDMO informed of any significant events or the need to modify any area of the operation/activity and discloses all relevant information.

Maintains attendance. Adheres to policies on attendance, days of absence, and illness.
Keeps supervisor informed of any significant events or the need to modify any area of the operation/activity.

Develops and maintains positive relationships with participants, their families, and providers.
Responds to the needs of participants, families, and providers in a timely and professional manner.
Will respond to crisis situations on-call.
Reports will be professionally done, contain accurate information, and provide adequate disclosure of information.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field such as marketing, journalism, communications, English, finance, business administration, or related field.
At least 5 years of experience in grant applications or public relations.
Ability to work independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to access various departments of a given location.

Schedule:
Monday – Friday
8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and special events as needed.
Ability to commute/relocate:
Norwich, CT 06360: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
