PRIMARY PURPOSE –
Supervision of department; technically proficient on company aircraft; liaison with local, state and federal agencies on aviation issues; corporate practices commensurate with good business standards; fiscal responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -
Supervision: 50%
Work with the Director of Business Management, Chief Pilot and Departmental personnel to ensure a department that is working toward achieving its goals and the initiatives of the Company.
Set and maintain high professional airmanship standards for all pilots, FAs
Stress safety as the most important of Company policies.
Communicate with pilots, FAs and other company employees to ensure all are aware of and follow company procedures and policies.
Match the mission to crew's abilities and ensure crew balance for a productive outcome of each job.
Be the focal point where pilots and other company employees can address concerns and new ideas.
Be able to identify trouble areas and effect solutions
Be able to deal with multiple issues and make fair, impartial, difficult decisions based on the facts.
Project manning needs and keep the Executive Leadership Team apprised of situations.
Ensure compliance with all local, State, Federal and foreign regulations.
Ensure quality training as required by FAA, Company standards and foreign agencies. Monitor and lead changes to training programs that will enhance safety and increase the quality and professionalism of company pilots.
In conjunction with the Director of Maintenance and Chief Pilot, make policies and procedures for the conduct of all Flight Operations..
Oversee department budgets and provide accountability for all expenditures
Provide the informational tools for adequate, efficient, timely capital expenditure decision making.
Technical: 30%
Possess adequate knowledge of all company aircraft operations to ensure safety and viability of projected missions. Be able to say no if scope of mission exceeds safety or operational limits.
Possess the knowledge of aircraft components and functions to be able to make logical assessments for trouble-shooting problems.
Possess the knowledge of the aircraft to be able to communicate with Maintenance and engineering the feasibility of suggested aircraft improvements and ECRs.
Possess the knowledge of the aircraft to adequately address pilot concerns not only with the pilots but with Maintenance personnel.
Be able to spot trends in aircraft incidents, focus on the problem and effect viable solutions.
Understand the computer based programs run by the Operations department
Be instrumental in developing useful programming tools for efficient, cost-effective operations
Liaison: 20%
Be able to communicate and work closely with the Senior Leadership Team.
Be able to communicate and work closely with local, Federal FAA and foreign representatives to ensure compliance with regulations and timely, knowledgeable revisions to required documentation.
Be able to communicate and work with Federal and State Fire/Forestry personnel to ensure equitable contractual provisions and treatment.
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE -
Valid U.S. Commercial (or higher) Rotorcraft-Helicopter License and appropriate medical.
Rotorcraft-Helicopter Certified Flight Instructor License.
3 years Part 135 experience in the last 6 years.
Type rated in company aircraft.
Ability to obtain a United States Security Clearance is required.
Ability to meet the DoD Medical Requirements
Solid background in and understanding of FAA Part 61, 91, 119, 133, 135, 137.
Longline, external load with fire-fighting/construction experience
Technically knowledge of company aircraft systems and operations
3 years Management level position(s)
Ability to pass background checks for government related contract work
Basic computer and office equipment use
Ability to work as a team in a high stress environment
Good communication skills (spoken, written)
Manage multiple issues and projects on a day to day basis
Organizational ability
Fiscally responsible
On call 24/7 to deal with wide ranging corporate issues
Frequent travel domestic and overseas often at a moment’s notice
