  Founded in 1887, Cornell Law School is a top-tier law school, currently ranked 12th by U.S. News & World Report. We offer a 3-year JD program for about 200 students per class, a one-year LLM program for about 90 students from countries throughout the world, and a doctoral (JSD) program for about 2-3 new students per year. Cornell Law School has 41 tenured and tenure-track faculty, including 20 with chaired faculty positions; and 15 clinical professors in the Lawyering Program and in clinics at the local, national, and international level. Our faculty is consistently ranked among the top in the country for scholarly productivity and influence and has pre-eminence in many areas, including quantitative and qualitative empirical legal studies, international and comparative law, and robust doctrinal scholarship in core fields.   Cornell Law School invites applications for a full-time (12-month) position as Director of Externships and Pro Bono Scholars Program, and Lecturer of Law, ideally commencing in the 2023-2024 academic year.

  Responsibilities of the position include:

  Administering the Externship and Pro Bono Scholars Programs, including teaching and evaluating students in each program.Working with the Associate Dean for Experiential Education to chart the strategic direction of the Externship and Pro Bono Scholars Programs.Meeting with and leading informational and counseling meetings for interested students.Updating and maintaining Externship and Pro Bono Scholars Program course materials.Developing and maintaining relationships with Externship and Pro Bono Scholars placement sites and site supervisors.Conducting the mid-semester and end-of-semester evaluation processes with students and site supervisors.Creating various publications, reports, and resources.Engaging with the regional and national law externship communities.

  The successful candidate will be appointed for an initial three-year term. Reappointment for a subsequent three-year term, followed by a five-year renewal term as senior lecturer, will be based on performance. Benefits are competitive and include a budget for research and travel.

  Qualifications:

  Applicants must have the following:

  JD from an accredited institution and a license to practice law in any jurisdiction, and 2-4 years of experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong academic and/or career counseling background.Superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication, group presentation, and organizational skills.Experience building and/or defining a curriculum, and desire to develop appropriate curricula for externs and Pro Bono Scholars participants.Ability to work independently and show proven initiative in the management of programs.Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, service, and commitment to student development.Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing, and the ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students.

  Pay Range:

  $49,700.00 - $119,000.00

  Pay Ranges:

  The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  Prior relevant work or industry experience.

  Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.

  Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
