Posting Summary
The Director of Operations is a member of the highly collaborative senior staff that reports to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Strategy, Diversity and Community Engagement. The Director of Operations will direct, coordinate, and manage the operations of the Division of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement, and provide support to both the Senior Vice Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for Governmental and External Affairs on building and managing relationships with key constituencies and stakeholders across New Jersey, the Philadelphia Metropolitan region and Washington, D.C. The position requires outstanding organizational, communication, and leadership skills and an ability to develop innovative solutions that allow the Division leadership and staff to achieve campus goals for diversity, equity and inclusion and community engagement. The Director will also be responsible for oversight in managing complex events and myriad of division specific campus-wide programming that support the mission and the vision of the Division. The director of operations will work closely with Division leadership and senior staff to strategize and develop policies, plans and systems that will allow the Division to run efficiently and effectively, increase the visibility and deepen the impact of diversity, equity, inclusion, and community engagement both internally and externally.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and five or more years of progressive responsibility in a leadership role in management or operations in education, business or nonprofit management or a related field.

  • Exceptional organizational, communication (oral and written) and leadership skills, backed by previous professional success.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage complex operational processes for maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Superior knowledge of multiple operational functions related to customer service, finance and grants management, data management, events management, and coordination.
  • Ability to streamline or implement structures that create consistency and align with university policy, while also being flexible and nimble to find new approaches when needed.
  • Knowledge and experience with legislative processes and ability to research and understand legislative trends.
  • Solutions-oriented and able work in a fast-paced environment that engages multiple, diverse constituencies.
  • Experience in higher education, with a deep understanding of community and civic engagement, and anchor institution partnerships.
  • Developing and managing budgets
  • Experiences with database platforms that manage events, volunteerism, and projects

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Frequent travel in and around the city of Camden, Trenton, N.J., the Philadelphia Metropolitan area, Washington, D.C,. Work requires some evenings and weekends.
