Position Description:
Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions:
Recruitment and retention of coding department leadership. Supervision of leadership team. Develops a leadership secession plan. Contributes to the annual strategic plan. Responsible for developing and maintaining Policy/Procedure. Communicate results to staff, leadership and all stakeholders. Evaluates functions, processes and workflows. Performs departmental quality assurance functions required to achieve quality standards, productivity standards and compliance. Directs the review of medical records for timely completion and documentation. Develops and monitors departmental budget Ensures documentation and coding practices meet national coding and compliance guidelines. Provides ongoing education for coding staff.
Position Specific Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree, Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, Ability to analyze and interpret data, Flexible management skills with little aversion to rapid change in a dynamic environment. Demonstrable knowledge of HIPAA and HITECH, Active coding certification (AAPC or AHIMA), Significant understanding of the revenue cycle, Ability to create and maintain departmental budget, Ability to write succinct reports.
