TheApprentice provides maintenance, repairs vehicles and equipment, andmainly focuses on preventative maintenance and maintaining the safety ofall vehicles and equipment. The Diesel Technician Apprentice willcontinue in this role until they compete all training requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Gains an understanding of basic parts, processes, and maintenancetechniques as instructed by knowledgeable technicians.
Learns how to complete all work orders, perform maintenance tasks basedon driver pre and post trip inspections in a timely manner.
Performs all job duties in accordance with company safety policies andregulations to ensure safe operations.
Assists senior level technicians in performing preventative MaintenanceInspections.
Aids senior level technicians on larger projects.
Learns how to thoroughly identify defects requiring correction, whichwould affect the availability of the equipment and the safety of theequipment operator.
Adjusts brakes, clutches, and other utilities that are part of thevehicle or other equipment.
Adjusts hydraulic pressures and other hydraulic components of anyequipment.
Performs tire changes and repairs on vehicles and equipment.
Builds, rebuilds or replaces hydraulic components and hoses of anyvehicle or stationary equipment.
Learns how to perform accurate lockout/tagout procedures.
Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expandknowledge of the company, products, sales and services and performs anyother duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission,and/or abide by our core values.
Career Path Definitions & Distinctions
Technician Apprentice: Demonstrates the ability to work alongside aknowledgeable Casella Waste Diesel Technician to learn and furtherdevelop skills. The Apprentice provides maintenance, repairs vehiclesand equipment, and mainly focuses on preventative maintenance andmaintaining the safety of all vehicles and equipment.
Technician B: Demonstrates the ability to identify operating issuesincluding examining, test driving and troubleshooting electrical andmechanical problems using standard testing procedures and computerdiagnostic equipment. Technician also demonstrates the ability tocorrect any operating issues that are found.
Technician A: Demonstrates the ability to inspect, troubleshoot, andrepair vehicle brakes, suspension, steering, tires, rims, hubs, PTO,hydraulics, engine, cooling, starting, ignition, charging, lightingsystems, fuel and air intake systems, heating, ventilation, and coolingsystems to ensure vehicles are in safe and dependable operatingcondition.
Master Technician: Demonstrates the ability to inspect, troubleshoot,and repair all vehicle and equipment systems. Can rebuild and replaceengines, engine components, transmissions, drive line and rear-ends,mechanical systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a High School Diploma or GED, must beat least 18 years of age, hold a valid Class A, B, or C Drivers license,have a basic knowledge or experience in automotive, diesel or heavyequipment diagnostics and repair and must be legally eligible to work inthe United States.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective listeningand problem-solving skills, and dedication to providing excellentcustomer service is desired. It is also important that the candidate hasdemonstrated the ability to work as part of a team in a collaborativeenvironment.
This position requires successful completion of pre-employment testing,including a dru screen.
