SUMMARY:
The Detention Officer performs routine duties in accordance with established policies, regulations and procedures to maintain order and provide for the security, care and direct supervision of inmates/residents in housing units, at meals, during recreation, on work assignments and during all other phases of activity in a correctional facility. May employ weapons or force to maintain discipline and order. Must be able to work any post assignment on any shift. This position reports to a Senior Detention Officer or above.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The successful applicant should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements. Any additional qualifications and/or essential job functions applicable for specific facility locations or post assignments will be contained in Appendix A.
Read, comprehend (including comprehension and implementation of actions required in such documents) and complywith specific postorderswritten for the assigned post.

Use mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals) to accurately perform such functions as periodic inmate/resident counts.
