We also offer jail deputies theopportunity to earn selection to serve on various department-widespecial teams to include Dive Team, Project Lifesaver, Critical IncidentNegotiations, Honor Guard, and more. Jail deputies can also serve asunified tactics instructors or field training officers. Salary is\$25.90 (hiring) - \$29.64 (top pay 8 years of service). Candidates withprior corrections experience (Jail or WI DOC) may start above the hiringrate depending on prior years of service. Jail Deputies currently work 4days on, 2 days off rotating scheduling working 8.5 hour shifts. Shiftsare assigned by seniority bid and are 1st Shift (0630-1500), 2nd Shift(1430-2300), or 3rd Shift (2230-0700) with new hires being assigned to2nd or 3rd shift. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain jailsecurity with regular patrols of housing units and through direct andindirect surveillance of inmate activities. Detect and intercede toprevent inmate violations of state statutes, and/or municipal and countyordinances. Investigate possible criminal activity and prepare reportsfor review by the District Attorney\'s Office. Investigate inmateviolations of jail rules and administer discipline as outlined inwritten procedures. Mediate inmate conflicts, separate and restraininmates involved in either verbal or physical altercations. Conductsearches of inmates and housing areas for contraband, drugs, and/orweapons. Identify existing or potential inmate issues and initiatesappropriate measures to address and resolve inmate problems. Bookinmates into jail, including fingerprinting, photographing, screeningfor medical and mental health, suicide ideation issues, body searches,inventory of personal belongings, and the issuance and explanation ofjail rules. Release inmates from custody after release conditions havebeen met. Review and create daily briefing information and reports.Additional Duties and Responsibilities Distribute inmate medicationsunder the supervision of licensed medical professionals. Supervise theserving of inmate meals, clothing, and linen exchanges. Escort inmatesto court, other correctional facilities, and medical and mental healthtreatment facilities. Collect and record bond and fine payments.Coordinate inmate work release by checking inmates in and out of theHuber Center, securing and maintaining employment, and verifyingattendance at employment. Supervise and log inmates\' visits fromfamily, friends, clergy, attorneys, probation and parole staff, lawenforcement personnel, and other applicable court officers. Stocksupplies needed to continue jail operations.
