About this role
What will you be responsible for?
The Nevada-based Legacy Group is responsible for leading closure/reclamation across a portfolio of mine projects across Nevada, California, Alaska and other locations within the Western U.S. The goal is complete release of regulatory and financial liabilities in compliance with Federal, State & Local regulatory authorizations and Newmont Global Standards/Guidance/SOPs. The purpose of the Sr. Legacy Site Supervisor is oversight of portfolio day-to-day water operations and associated environmental compliance obligations. Position also includes oversight of reclamation/closure project daily activities to ensure successful execution in compliance with regulatory authorizations.
Your role consist of
Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
• Provide day-to-day oversight of site water management across the portfolio with respect to regulatory authorizations (site facility storage capacity, discharge criteria, pit lake formation, seeps, etc.) and Newmont Global Standards.
• Give day-to-day oversight of operation and maintenance of water treatment systems to attain water quality discharge permit criteria.
• Assist preparation of environmental compliance reports, including population of NDEP database spreadsheets and presentation of data in tabular and graphical formats using Monitor Pro.
• Support implementation of “fit-for-purpose” application of Newmont Global Standards/Guidance/SOP to Legacy.
• Actively participate in the development of guidelines and SOPs and implement existing new guidelines and SOPs at the site.
• Assist preparation of permit applications, modifications and renewals.
• Contribute to site and project risk assessments, reclamation/closure strategy and site budget development.
• Assist pursuit of reclamation liability and bond releases across NV Legacy site portfolio.
• Engage with environmental regulators, government agencies and other collaborators on environmental topics within the portfolio of sites as directed.
• Lead contractors and consultants doing work on environmental initiatives or with impacts on environmental performance.
• Assist preparation of reclamation cost estimates for reclamation bonding in accordance with established protocols.
• Provide day-to-day reclamation project and safety oversight across the NV portfolio.
• Support environmental compliance sampling and inspection activities as required.

Education:
Experience:
• Minimum 7+ years experience, mining or extraction experience preferred, 3+ years supervisory/management experience required.
• Confirmed experience with water quality sampling protocols and compliance reporting.
• Shown supervisory experience, understanding overall project goals for specific site.
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically to set priorities for employees, contractors and consultants to ensure successful project completion.
• Demonstrated ability to understand operational potential risks across sites and implementation of site risk assessment processes.
• Evidenced ability to perform trouble-shooting and exercise of judgment based on previous experience, practices and precedents.
• Knowledge of and ability to operate a water treatment facility is highly desirable.
• Strong mechanical background and ability to operate mobile equipment such as a loader, forklift and dozer is desirable.
Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interact with key collaborators and work with higher level managers.
• Able to for see potential opportunities and implement contingencies with input from manager.
• Independent decision-maker guided by policies, procedures, business plan and manager guidance.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Monitor Pro applications.
Working conditions and location
Where you will be located
• Position is currently based in the Elko, Nevada general area. Alternate base locations may be considered.
• Work is performed under field, office and remote work locations.
• Approximately 60% of time (annual average) of time spent in field with possible exposure to harsh winter/summer conditions, chemical, mine waste and wildlife.
• Must be highly self-motivated and capable of working independently.
• Position may include travel to other domestic and international sites.
Work may require flying as a passenger in helicopters and small aircraft.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $88,080 - 104,595. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
