About Critical Care Internship - All Locations

Where Expertise Meets Compassionate Care!

The Critical Care Internship Program, or CCIP is an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills to transition into an ICU setting. At BayCare, we have multiple specialties in the ICU including Cardiovascular, Neurological and Medical/Surgical. The ICU is dedicated to providing compassionate care to critically ill adults, with compassionate and family centered care focus.

We are seeking motivated, mature, self-directed professionals who are interested in growing in a dynamic team and making a difference.

Current Available BayCare's for All Locations for the Critical Care Internship Program Openings as of 1-24-2025:

Night Shift is strongly preferred

St. Anthony's Hospital (St. Petersburg) - MICU - Night Shift - Experienced RN preferred

Morton Plant Hospital (Clearwater) - MICU - Night Shift - Experienced RN preferred

Morton Plant North Bay Hospital (New Port Richey) - MICU - Night Shift - Experienced RN preferred

Mease Countryside Hospital (Safety Harbor) - MICU - Night Shift - Experienced RN preferred

South Florida Baptist (Plant City) - MICU - Night Shift - Experienced RNpreferred

Availability based on hospital needs

Internship details:

3 weeks of didactic and 8-16 weeks of preceptorship

Guided clinical orientation to ensure up-to-date and comprehensive care knowledge

Shift: Interns will gain experience on both day and night shift before being assigned a permanent shift

Every other weekend requirement

Commitment: This is an hours-based commitment required for the internship program specifically to the unit of hire beginning at the end of completed preceptorship hours

Requirements:

Current RN (Registered Nurse) License

Associate’s, Bachelor's or Higher in Nursing

BLS certification from the American Heart Association

EKG Script test will be provided at the start of the internship program, you are required to pass within 2 attempts. Failure to do so will result in being released from the internship program

Preferred: ACLS certification with the American Heart Association

Preferred: 1-year experience in an Acute Care setting

The Registered Nurse – ICU responsibilities and skills:

Works in a hospital setting and independently cares for a group of ICU patients consistently using the nursing process and clinical standards

Delegates appropriate patient care activities to other members of the health care team

Care for patient needs throughout their recovery in critical care

Monitor, record, and update care team on patient vitals and assessments.

Identifying sudden or subtle changes in a patient’s medical condition

Responding to medical emergencies for critical patients

Coordinates and documents appropriate discharge planning and referrals to ensure continuity of care after discharge

High emotional intelligence to create a positive patient care experience that includes simplifying medical terminology and concepts to the patient
