  The Bureau of Human Resources is accepting applications from current Department of Corrections employees to establish a register to fill a vacancy located at the Maine State Prison located in Warren, Maine

  This position will be responsible for

  This is an innovative position in the corrections field that combines correctional officer responsibilities with the latest in providing intervention and de-escalation to special populations. Special populations may include residents having an acute or chronic mental illness, behavioral health, or physical health and/or wellness needs.

  Work involves investigative and protective services in the custody, security, treatment, rehabilitation, reentry, and emergency response to individuals in special populations housed within the assigned correctional unit(s). We are currently hiring for all shifts.

  RESPONSIBILITIES

  Work is performed under limited supervision and must model and exemplify the Mission and Values of the Maine Department of Corrections and the humane and restorative approaches of theMaine Model of Corrections (https://www.maine.gov/corrections/mmc) .

  Assessing risks and needs, counseling, and monitoring resident behavior.

  Directing and overseeing activities, and crafting behavioral or health modifications or strategies that provide short-term stabilization reinforce long-term behavior change.

  Preparing behavior and incident reports

  Participating in the development and implementation of treatment strategies and release planning

  Integrating daily activities with treatment and/or reentry goals

  Recommending and/or implementing actions or interventions to enhance dynamic security practices.

  Providing technical support services to both correctional and casework staff in the application of daily unit and goal-oriented activities.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  Four (4) years of education and/or experience which would provide knowledge and abilities in the treatment and case planning of individuals who have traumatic and adverse backgrounds.

  Preference will be given to those candidates with an Associate's Degree or at least two years of post-secondary education in behavioral health, social sciences or a related field.

  Licensing Requirement:

  Current Correctional Certification or successful completion of the Basic Corrections Training Program (BCTP)

  Successful Completion of Acuity Specialist Training Program upon hire

If you have met the minimum qualifications you will be placed on a register for this job classification with the Bureau of Human Resources.

  Certification to Vacancies

  Eligibility lists for each classification are comprised of applicants who have successfully completed all phases of the examination process.

  Dental Insurance – The State of Maine pays 100% of employee-only dental premiums ($350.40 annual value).

  Retirement Plan – The State of Maine contributes 19% of pay to the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS), on behalf of the employee.

  Gym Membership Reimbursement – Improve overall health with regular exercise and receive up to $40 per month to offset this expense.

  Health and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts – Set aside money pre-tax to help pay for out-of-pocket health care expenses and/or daycare expenses.
