Job Summary and Qualifications
Under the supervisor of the manager, the Core Lab Team Lead is responsible and held accountable for assisting with the establishment and maintenance of protocols from procedures and standards within the laboratory, and ensuring staff uphold these protocols. The Core Lab Team Lead plans, coordinates and directs the daily activities of the personnel in the laboratory. He/she provides expert technical assistance and training of laboratory personnel including assigning, reviewing and evaluation technical personnel within a section. Assist manager by ensuring the completion, validity and accuracy of all test results. He/she must adhere to all accrediting body standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist with ensuring there is high quality specimen testing, with timely and accurate results.
Assist in the maintenance and improvement of systems and procedures.
Assist director to department functions as effectively and efficiently as possible.
Manage the day to day functions of facility and the staff associated with the facility.
Act as the training coordinator for the unit and support staff in all their activities.
Assist the manager by ensuring that the department is maintained in a compliant state and that Laboratory operations are carried out to appropriate regulatory requirements, and assist with CAP.
Act as technical adviser to new employees.
Assist with recruitment, selection, and evaluations of laboratory staff.
Assist the manager with monitoring quality control indicators on a daily, weekly or monthly review to ensure quality results for patient care.
Proactively follow up on and resolve ‘problem’ specimens and results, and customer issues, and informs supervision of issues.
Participate in the introduction / implementation of new systems and processes.
Ability to rotate through all defined work areas in the department efficiently.
Assist supervision with fostering a positive team environment for the whole department, and helps to monitor performance of the team of staff.
Participates in bench rotations to ensure all operational areas and times are adequately staffed.
Contribute to the management of workflow, testing, monitoring of standards, quality, and productivity.
Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm.
Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
· Degree Medical Technologist or other qualification recognized by Lab Certification agencies required
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
· Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel License with a qualification in one of the 5 following areas is required: Microbiology, Serology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, or Immunohematology.
· Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel Licensure in all of the 6 following qualification areas is preferred: Microbiology, Serology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology, Molecular Pathology.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
· 3- 5 years experience preferred
