Position Summary:
Through creative and collaborative processes, this position coordinates the marketing and branding efforts of the Central Michigan University Libraries. This position is responsible for creating all marketing materials, print and digital, related to the Univ. Libraries' services, resources, and events. This person plays a significant role in website development, user testing, event planning, and outreach activities. This position enhances the University Libraries' ability to foster a dynamic learning and research environment through which our community can effectively discover, access, and use information.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience that equates to four years.
Two years of professional experience in print and digital graphic design, concept through production.
Experience using graphic design software programs, particularly the Adobe Creative Cloud, demonstrated through a portfolio.
Knowledge of graphic design standards.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize.
Ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a creative team
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in a relevant field.
Experience with website content management systems.
Capability to design/develop motion graphics, including text, stills, video, and CGI
Knowledge of or experience with user testing, user-centered design, and universal design.
Project management experience.
Knowledge of markup languages such as HTML, CSS, and XML.
Knowledge of emerging web technologies.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Uses creativity and collaborates with all library departments to develop and maintain a functional, attractive, and intuitive online and physical presence for the University Libraries.
Through communications and marketing materials, promotes the Libraries as accessible and welcoming for all users.
Leads the Libraries' marketing committee.
Gathers input to develop targeted marketing and promotional campaigns that engage students, faculty, staff, donors, and community members.
Ensures and monitors consistent branding for all library publications and communications.
Designs signage, promotional items, postcards, invitations, and print materials.
Creates and maintains digital content for the Libraries' digital message boards, website, and social media marketing campaigns. Analyses and reports results of website and social media campaigns.
Produces, tests, and publishes website components.
Exercises working knowledge of University identity standards, processes, and procedures in the development of digital and print content.
Coordinates with Printing Services to obtain quotes for print jobs, prepares printer-ready documents, and reviews and approves proofs.
Obtains quotes and creates camera-ready graphics for library-related advertising in online and print publications.
Coordinates with University Communications and the Office of Information Technology as needed.
Assists in the planning of library exhibits, events, and other initiatives such as the Book Recognition event, Friends of the Libraries events, speakers' series, and university events such as student recruiting/orientation events.
Maintains current knowledge of trends related to user-centered design.
