OverviewThe Department of Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences (NDFS) at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a Coordinator to work with the Utah Produce Safety Program. Location flexible within Utah, with preference given for Price, Salt Lake City, or Logan.
This is a part-time position that runs through June 30, 2026, depending on the annual renewal of funding. This position is funded through the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF), as part of the US Food and Drug Administration Produce Safety Implementation Cooperative Agreement Program.
The Coordinator will work closely with the Produce Safety Program Director in NDFS to coordinate programming related to the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule. The main focus of this position will be to coordinate efforts between USU Extension and the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food to promote the Utah Produce Safety Program. Occasional overnight travel (1 to 3 times per year) may be required.
Responsibilities
Coordinate efforts between the UDAF and USU Produce Safety teams.Oversee the maintenance of the UDAF Produce Safety website and develop and maintain an Extension Produce Safety website.Organize Produce Safety Alliance grower trainings. This includes making logistical arrangements, ensuring that adequate materials (workbooks, certificates, etc.) are available, and promoting trainings to local produce growers.Assist with data collection, management, and/or verification of the Utah Farm Inventory database.Develop and maintain a record of high-priority produce safety topics for Utah farmers, and coordinate efforts to develop publications, videos, or other outreach materials as appropriate.Communicate with Extension faculty to coordinate outreach activities and provide updated information.Manage budgets associated with the Utah Produce Safety Program, and ensure programmatic spending is consistent with approved categories.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
BS in an agriculture-related field, or AS/AAS with 2+ years directly related experienceMust possess strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsPreferred Qualifications:
Education, training, or prior experience associated with fruit and vegetable production
Experience with GAP (Good Agricultural Practices), group GAP, and/or National Organic ProgramAbility to communicate complex regulatory requirements and scientific information in a manner that is easily understood by the laypersonCertified Produce Safety Alliance trainer or lead trainer statusMS in agriculture-related fieldExperience with program development and/or delivery related to food safetyExperience managing budgetsExperience managing multipart projectsPrior...
