Based in the Santa Monica, California area, this opening for a Controller is a permanent position. The ideal candidate for this position can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. This position is for candidates who can effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. Responsibilities
Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month
Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible
Comfortable handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties
Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual
Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required
Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis
Review deliverables of self and team to align with client expectations Requirements
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to handle multiple projects within strict deadlines
Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
Experience in a small manufacturing/distribution industry is critical
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
General ledger experience
Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail
Prior work done in public accounting is desired
Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment
Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision
Attention to detail and proven ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
