Job Posting: Controller
Position Summary:Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller plays a vital role in overseeing the financial operations of East House and its affiliates. This leadership position involves developing and managing budgets, generating financial reports, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading the Finance team. The Controller collaborates with various departments, provides financial guidance for decision-making, and continuously seeks opportunities for process improvement.
Strategic Leadership:
Leads and manages the Finance team, providing training and support.
Collaborates with other departments to align financial strategies with organizational goals.
Executes and implements financial strategies set by the CFO.
Provides financial information and guidance to support decision-making.
Accounting Operations & Financial Management:
Oversees accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset recordkeeping, and general ledger functions.
Manages month-end and year-end closing process, including account reconciliations.
Responsible for cash management, monitoring cash flow, and managing cash reserves.
Develops and maintains financial policies and procedures.
Oversees financial aspects of grants and funding received.
Reviews journal entries and coordinates external financial reports.
Financial Planning & Reporting:
Oversees preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Prepares financial reports for the Board of Directors and East House leadership.
Assists in budget development, creates financial forecasts, and analyzes financial data for decision-making.
Manages programmatic financials, ensuring programs receive monthly financial packages.
Risk Management, Audit & Compliance:
Establishes and maintains internal controls for accurate financial reporting.
Coordinates with external auditors for annual audit.
Identifies and manages financial risks, implementing risk mitigation strategies.
Ensures compliance with financial reporting standards.
Documents accounting policies and procedures, recommending process improvements.
Implements best practices in financial management.
Other:
Adheres to applicable policies, federal and state laws, and regulations.
May perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.
Requirements
Education & Training:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
CPA strongly desired.
Experience:
5 to 7 years of relevant work experience in financial management and accounting.
Prior experience in a non-profit organization strongly desired.
Experience with nonprofit accounting and grant management beneficial.
Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and audit coordination.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong understanding of financial management principles and non-profit challenges.
Knowledge of non-profit accounting standards and compliance.
Proficiency in financial management software and systems.
