The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has an opening for two (2) Construction Mechanic Assistants in Lansing, MI, as part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFL-CIO, Local Union 352.
Position Summary:
Assists Construction Mechanics in areas including rough and finish carpentry, general repair work including plumbing, welding, roofing, masonry, concrete work, vac truck work, scaffolding and excavation work for ductsMaintains lawns, spuds coal and performs other manual labor dutiesEssential Functions:
Assists in various phases of Construction Mechanic trade including, but not limited to: digging ditches, repairing railroad tracks, cleaning precipitators, etcPerforms landscaping work including sodding and sod repair, lawn repairs, lawn mowing, and snow plowing workPerforms excavation work, shores excavations, installs hand-holes, and performs concrete and duct installationsPerforms minor carpentry work, and roofingSets up and performs precipitator washesAssists in the operation of industrial vac truck to clean various pits, boilers, manholes, etcAssists Plant coal operationsCleans oil spills when requiredOperates various pieces of mobile equipment including lowboys, forklifts, power scaffolds, and Hilti machineClimbs and works from ladders and scaffoldsPrepares road cuts and cleans ductsPerforms ceiling work as necessaryPerforms general laborer dutiesLearns to operate large pumpsPerforms other duties as directed or necessitated by job responsibilitiesRequired to follow BWL safety manual rules and wear required personal protective equipmentAttends all training for safety awareness and skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHAWhy Should You Apply?
