100% employee owned engineering, consulting, and construction firm is currently hiring Construction Inspectors to support the largest Design/Build project in Virginia's history.
The Project: The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion is the largest highway construction project in Virginia's history. This transformative undertaking will widen the current four-lane segments along nearly ten miles of the I-64 corridor in Norfolk and Hampton, with new twin tunnels across the harbor. The expansion will increase capacity, ease major congestion, and enhance travel time reliability. Including the construction contract and owner’s costs, the project’s total budget is over $3.9 billion, making it one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country.

Qualifications:
-Associates or Bachelors in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or applicable field preferred
-0-2+ years of experience
-Experience working outdoors and in the elements
-Ability to work night shifts when needed (Prior notice will be given and +$1.50 night shift differential will be added to hourly rate for any hours worked at night)
-Reliable and Dependable.
-Able to fill out reports accurately and timely
Responsibilities:
-Perform quality control of VDOT Roadway and Bridges construction for field soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate testing of contractors work to ensure contract compliance for routine activities of non-complexity, under the direction of a Construction Quality Control Inspector or Manager.
-Upon successful demonstration of required skills and aptitude, candidates will be eligible for promotions and advancement opportunity.
-Performs materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density
-Reviews placement of and performs materials tests on concrete deliveries in accordance VDOT and ACI standards. Make cylinders for delivery to the labs
-Verifies construction of Roadway and Hwy materials and placement to be in compliance with drawings, VDOT specifications and standards, special provisions and contract documents.
-With appropriate training and oversight, will monitor and observe limited contractual fieldwork, which includes excavations, storm drain pipping installation, drainage facilities, concrete placement, soil and aggregate placement, road surfaces, pile driving while under supervision of a more experienced inspector.
-Advises inspector supervisors and contractor supervisors/foreman of non-conforming field tests
-Takes field measurements of materials placed/tested and record daily production and test results.
-Complete daily report with attached VDOT materials testing forms.
-Receives materials delivery tickets for compliance and submission to contractor
-Takes assignments and direction from Quality Control Lead Management

-Accurately records and reports daily forms per project requirements
-Communicates effectively with client, contractor, staff, and supervisor
-Proactively resolves problems at the lowest level
-Adheres to project scope, schedule, and budget
-Reviews all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting
-Submits accurate time sheets, mileage and expense reports on time each week
-Reviews jobsite safety daily and takes immediate action to document and resolve issues
-Understands OSHA Safety Standards and KCI corporate policies and follows them at all times
-Maintains all required certifications and participates in training courses as required
-Understands all applicable industry standards for project and performs all tasks per standards and client requirements
Qualifications:
-High School Diploma or Associates or Bachelors in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or applicable field preferred
-0-1+ years of experience
-Comfortable working outdoors and in the elements

-Active ACI or VDOT certifications are plus
