Our client divisions include Executive Administration, Fiscal Management, Budget, Revenue Estimating, Treasury, Unclaimed Property, Economic Assistance and Analysis, State Energy Conservation Office, Texas Prepaid Higher Education Tuition Board/Educational Opportunities and Investments, and Property Tax Assistance. Our legal research covers numerous areas of law, including administrative law, legislative matters, banking law, bankruptcy, DO insurance coverage, ethics and conflicts of interest, fiduciary duty of board making investment decisions, fiscal, state budget and constitutional law, open meetings, family, trusts and probate, intellectual property, securities law (municipal securities), sovereign immunity, qualified immunity, wrongful imprisonment claims, employment law, as well as federal, state and local tax law. This summer, we will provide legal support to any new programs that were created during the 2023 legislative session.A legal intern will be able to gain valuable legal experience, participate in the day-to-day responsibilities of a government legal division, and develop their personal and professional skills by working directly with experienced government attorneys and client divisions on real world assignments in many diverse areas of the law.Qualifications: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education:Graduation from an accredited college or university and currently enrolled in an accredited law school seeking an LLB or JD degree.Experience:Legal research, writing and analysis.IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:Performs timely legal research on state and federal statutes, bills, rules, and regulations, and assists in writing legal memoranda, reports, and other documents.Reviews and edits publications, contracts, transactional documents, and other legal documents for legal content, accuracy, and legal compliance. Reviews court orders, powers of attorney, trusts, and other legal documents to determine whether applicantshave legal authority over certain program accounts.Attends internal and external meetings.
