Position Summary: Serves as the District contact and public relations person during the use of facilities by citizen groups. Supervises the general conduct of citizen groups using the facilities of the Johnston Community School District. Monitors the physical condition and the security of facilities when being used by citizen groups.
Qualifications
Skill, Knowledge and Abilities
• Knowledge of Community Education
• Ability to follow directions and to work without direct supervision
• Good oral communication and public relations skills
• Ability to work cooperatively while enforcing rules for use by community groups
• Knowledge of, or ability to acquire, all facility use documents including Facility Use Guidelines, Group Representatives Responsibilities and Board Policies concerning facility use
• Knowledge of, or ability to acquire, the physical arrangement of all District buildings, location of light switches, location of rest rooms, and the operation of special equipment, as needed
• Knowledge of, or ability to acquire, fire and tornado regulations, emergency procedures and procedures related to building security
• Ability to perform cleaning duties
• Ability to work effectively with a variety of citizen groups of varying ages
• Ability to handle conflict situations and make on-the-spot decisions
Education
• High School diploma or equivalent highly desired
Certifications
• CPR/First Aid preferred
Experience
• Some successful experience in working with various types of citizen groups highly desired

Professional
• Serve as communication and public relations liaison between citizen groups, Group Representatives, community education staff, district personnel and custodial staff. Reflect in a positive manner the District’s and Community Education’s philosophy of community use of facilities
• Have working knowledge of all facility use documents including Facility Use Guidelines, Group Representative Responsibilities, Field Use Guidelines and Building Supervisor duties
• Monitor general condition of facility before, during and following scheduled activities. Report any defects or special needs to custodians on duty and to Facility Program Coordinator
• Monitor groups to assure adherence to appropriate use of District facilities
• Distribute materials and/or equipment including media equipment as advance requested
• Clean and/or assist citizen groups with cleaning of facility to return it to desired condition as specified in supervisor duty guidelines. Knows the location of, and proper use of cleaning materials
• Acquire/return facility keys to/from Community Education as needed for assignments
• Report to appropriate CE Coordinator on all relevant matters
• Attend annual orientation, staff development and special meetings as assigned
• Perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
• Arrives on time and works consistently until the end of his/her schedule day
• Ability to perform manual labor as needed (i.e. moving tables/chairs, shoveling sidewalk, basic cleaning)
• Location may be any district facility
