  What Is the Opportunity?

  Claim handling is a vital service provided by our Claims teams here are Travelers and we are dedicated to providing our insureds, reinsureds, brokers and underwriters with an efficient and effective claims service. To ensure we continue to provide first class service, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Claims Technical Director to join our team based in either our London, Redhill, Manchester or Dublin office.

  We are looking for someone who has extensive claims handling experience in property, casualty, employers liability, and public liability and ideally within the London Market.

  Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.

  What Will You Do?

  Within authority limit, independently analyse, and help support, investigate, negotiate and resolve any claims which may include highest severity and/or most significant claims.

  Work closely with management to develop procedures, policies and objectives.

  Ensure that all policies and procedures, including compliance, regulatory, performance and customer service standards are met or exceeded by the team .

  Be accountable for accurate documentation/information in claim file and claim management systems and adhere to documentation standards (i.e. coverage analysis, reserve and settlement rationale, current diary).

  Prepare reports (e.g. Monthly BRP packs , local trend analysis, Significant Loss Memos, quarterly claim, trial, class action) for management, U.S reporting that accurately reflect loss development, potential/actual financial exposure, coverage issues, and claim and recovery strategies.

  Coordinate completion and submission of broker tender documents as required

  Within authority limit, retain, monitor, manage and approve payments to outside counsel as required. Collaborate with Claim Legal, Large Loss U.S Claim function to set litigation strategy consistent with business objectives, actively utilizing litigation management plans and budgets

  Working across claims which may include Large Loss as required and assist claims handlers consistently apply superior negotiating skills and expertise to drive terms and conditions consistent with business standards and claim resolutions strategy, including when the matter is in litigation.

  Support all reserve adjustments, any high-exposure/high sensitivity losses as may be required, with focus on claim trends, legal decisions and issues which may impact product line to both claim and underwriting management.

  Drive the training and development strategy with a special focus on developing industry claim expertise that align to our service propositions.

  Support the mentoring of less experienced colleagues in developing and implementing claim resolution strategies.

  Recognize issues with broader implications to business unit and Travelers and communicate to stakeholders and Claims Management

  Represent claim unit in strategic initiatives (or lead such projects).

  Maintain knowledge of coverage, law, legislative and industry-related initiatives and judicial trends.

  What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  Solid experience of Business Insurance lines and coverages / defence work.

  Substantial experience working in the insurance market.

  Experience/knowledge of Lloyd's of London Market

  Experience in development of trial strategy and negotiation of complex claims worked in either /or UK or USA jurisdictions.

  Degree level education or ACII qualification.

  Advanced communication skills - Excellent verbal/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

  Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  What is a Must Have?

  Substantial experience of Business Insurance lines and policy coverage

  Experience in property, casualty, employers liability, and public liability claims

  Lloyds Market experience

  What Is in It for You?

  Private Medical Insurance: On commencement of employment, you are eligible for single cover provided by Travelers, with the option to add cover for your dependents, at your expense through payroll deduction.

  Retirement: Travelers will make a basic contribution of 9% of pensionable salary to your Group Personal Pension Plan (“GPPP”). If you decide to contribute an additional amount from your salary, you will receive an increased company contribution up to a maximum of 3%. This would bring the total company contribution to 12%.

  Holiday Entitlement: Start your career at Travelers with a minimum of 25 days holiday entitlement annually, plus the opportunity to purchase additional days to allow for up to a total of 35 holidays per year.

  Wellness Programme: The Travelers wellness programme is comprised of tools and resources that empower you to achieve your wellness goals. Through the EAP, you’re eligible for five free counseling sessions with a licensed therapist.
