Job Summary
The Electrophysiology Specialist (EPS) performs adult diagnostic andinterventional cardiovascular and electrophysiology (EP) procedures. Thisposition functions independently as an expert technologist in EP who is ahighly competent and clinically skilled member of the Invasive Cardiology Teamat Denver Health, that includes registered nurses, cardiovasculartechnologists, certified cardiovascular specialists, nursepractitioners, physician assistants, cardiology fellows and facultyphysicians. In addition to assisting the EP physicians with the most complexEP procedures, this position oversees the technical operations required forthe performance of routine diagnostics and advanced interventional/electrophysiology procedures. The EPS performs all EP procedures withproficiency and demonstrates technical expertise, making a significantcontribution to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiacarrhythmias. This position must be an expert who is competent in the use of EPmonitoring/stimulation systems, intra-cardiac echocardiography, and 3Dmapping systems. This EPS possesses expert clinical and technical knowledgewhich they apply to collect and assess data, in collaboration with themultidisciplinary team, to provide therapeutic care for patients and familysystematically and continuously. The person must demonstrate a high degree ofunderstanding of the interpretation of cardiac arrhythmias in all InvasiveCardiology and EP procedures. The individual must be competent in propersterile technique and will assist the physician with implantation of permanentpacemakers, ICDs and BiV-ICDs. The individual must be competent in theoperation and troubleshooting skills of EP specialty equipment and x-raysystem
Essential Functions:This position requires the individual to be flexible in their work scheduleincluding but not limited to extended shifts and on-call per operationalneeds. (20%)Duties for this position include but are not limited to analyzing anddeciphering electrophysiologic recordings & intra-cardiac echocardiography.Other duties as assigned. (20%)Intra and post procedure patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring,patient teaching, and scrubbing roles for invasive procedures performed inthe department. (20%)Performs at an expert clinical level and assists the electrophysiologists withthe most complex electrophysiology procedures in an adult patientpopulation; including both diagnostic and interventional. (20%)Operates complex electrophysiology specialty equipment including but notlimited to; 3D mapping systems, stimulation systems, intracardiacechocardiography and EP monitoring and recording system. Serves as an expertresource and educator to all EP staff, nurses, cardiovascular techs,fellows and physicians as appropriate. Precept and train all EP staff,including nurses, techs, specialists, and fellows to the scrub role forcardiac implantable device procedures. (20%)
Education:High School Diploma or GED required andPost High School Diploma or Certificate Program in a health science(includes, but not limited to, cardiovascular/electrophysiologytechnology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, or paramedic/EMT) required.
Work Experience:4-6 years cardiovascular and electrophysiology technologist work experience ina dedicated electrophysiology or combined cardiovascular/electrophysiology(Cath/EP) lab required.
Licenses:CEPS-Allied Professional Certified Electrophysiology Specialist - IBHRE -International Board of Heart Rhythm Ex miners-OR -RCES (Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist) throughCCI-Cardiovascular Credentialling International required.
ARRT-Radiologic Technologists - ARRT - American Registry of RadiologicTechnologists- OR -RCIS-Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist - CCI - Cardiovascular CredentiallingInternational required. (Non-ARRT (R) requires Fluoroscopy Licensurethrough DORA)
ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Associationrequired.BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association required.
