The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a motivated Carpenter to join our Facilities team. Incumbents for this position perform all necessary activities to properly design, inspect, repair, install, maintain, alter and remove carpentry related structures, building components and furnishings. You will work under the Foreman and Carpenter II, alongside other hospital employees and contractors to ensure the operation, safety, and regulatory compliance of all structures, building components and furnishings located on the property of Lemuel Shattuck Hospital. /_Hours:_/Monday-Friday, 7:30-4:00PM, Weekends Off /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_//__/ * /Maintains buildings and related structures applying carpentry techniques and using carpentry tools to construct, alter, repair and/or install wall, stairs, floors, ceilings, windows, doors, closers, roofs, gutters, locks, mail slots and ventilation grills, access panels, handicapped chair rails and ramps, shelving, etc./ * /Performs structural repair, alteration, or improvement work such as lowering ceilings and paneling areas; preparing surfaces for plaster or cement work; studding, wiring and plastering walls and cracks and holes, taping joints on sheetrock and pre-cementing and/or replacing Formica tops./ * /Performs all duties necessary for the planning, design, installation, modification, repair, and removal of carpentry related structures, building components and furnishings./ * /Determines the need for, prices, orders, stores, inventories, distributes, and documents the use of stock and special-order parts and materials./ * /Provides functional supervision to trade workers on work assignments./ * /Operates, maintains, secures, and supervises the operation of all departmental / hospital equipment./ * /Works with employees, contractors, consultants, vendors, and others designated by the administration of the hospital and/or are necessary to successfully perform the duties described within this document./ * /Ensure hospital compliance with all related codes, regulations, and standards./ * /Develops and maintains a knowledge of, complies with, enforces, and trains assigned employees on, appropriate hospital policies, procedures, practices, and directives./ * /Attends all assigned meetings, training, and other gatherings / events./ * /Performs all other duties related to the successful completion of requests, orders, job duties and directives approved by the hospitals administration or their designee./ * /Interprets and/or draws up sketches, patterns, blueprints, instructions and/or layouts of work to be done./ * /Inspects buildings needing carpentry repair or alterations, estimates job duration and the cost and/or quantities of labor and materials needed to complete the job and reports results of inspection to those who have complained of unsafe conditions or who have requested the alteration work./ * /Perform related work as assigned./ /_Required Qualifications:_/ * Knowledge of and ability to interpret all codes, regulations and standards related to the planning, design, installation, modification, repair, and removal of carpentry related structures, building components and furnishings. * Able to perform all physical activities related to the duties outlined on this document. * Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches. * Ability to follow and issue written and verbal instructions. * Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures followed in carpentry and of the types and uses of safety and climbing equipment used in carpentry. * Understanding of the types and uses of tools used in carpentry benchwork, small measurement devices, small hand-held tools, and hand-held power tools. /_/Preferred Qualifications:/_/ * Understanding of hospital related codes, regulations, policies, procedures, and directives. * Knowledge of hospital systems and components. * Comprehension of hospital related contracts and agreements. * Knowledge of the policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned unit activities. * Understanding of the types and uses of agency forms. /_About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:_/ Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients.
