  Planner-Buyer

  Principle Job Function:

  The Planner-Buyer position is responsible to develop, maintain, and communicate detailed production schedules and material plans for assigned products. This position is responsible to procure, source, and manage vendor relationships for assigned products, including packaging components, equipment, services, and supplies. The Planner-Buyer is accountable to drive cost savings and continuous improvement efforts. The Buyer-Planner is also responsible to develop, maintain, and communicate detailed production plans and schedules for a variety of products and manufacturing processes through the complete production cycle. The principle responsibility of every employee is to aid in the production of superior quality products. Scope: The Planner-Buyer reports to the Supply Chain Manager and is responsible for developing detailed and higher level plans, driving cost savings, negotiating with suppliers, leading daily/weekly planning meetings, participating in project meetings for product launches and continuous improvement initiatives. This individual will need to interact effectively with internal stakeholders, sector resources, and external suppliers. This position will be responsible to perform the scheduling and associated capacity analysis by work center for the contract packaging business. This position will also be required to perform and participate on special projects/continuous improvement teams as needed.

  Principle Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

   Collaboratively develop and ensure the ongoing revision and communication to stakeholders of monthly production plans and detailed production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements at lowest cost.

   Create periodic reports of production performance to plan, capacity utilization, spend, procurement savings, vendor performance, inventory reporting and other ad hoc reports as required.

   Procure packaging components, MRO, tooling, equipment, and services via the issuance of purchase orders. Ensuring terms and conditions of purchase orders are adhered to and any required drawings or specifications are provided to suppliers.

   Lead daily and weekly planning meetings with stakeholders.

   Analyzes spend to evaluate and drive cost savings opportunities with suppliers and, as applicable, utilizes the strategic sourcing process. Capture procurement-related cost savings initiatives in centralized reporting system (START).

   Perform periodic analysis of aged component inventory that identifies action plans for reduction/disposition.

   Communicate, lead and implement corrective actions, as required, to meet customer delivery commitments. This may include responding to schedule delays due to labor and/or material shortages, equipment downtime, or customer change order requests.

   Maintain optimal inventory levels of components and finished goods through best practice inventory management techniques, e.g., JIT, Kanban, VMI, consignment, etc., and identifies, recommends and manages component safety stock or stocking programs.

   Process and manage vendor claims for defective components and coordinate issuance of supplier corrective actions (SCAR) in conjunction with Quality Assurance and Manufacturing.

   Maintain and assure proper setup of planning parameters and information in SAP to drive accurate MRP and planning outputs.

   Support new product launch teams by scheduling line trials, coordinating materials, and participation in team meetings.

   Promote workplace operating compliance to environmental, health and safety procedures and guidelines. Actively enforce EHS initiatives and associate adherence to them.

   Seek and/or accept tasks stretching themselves within or outside their functional work team.

   Develop and ensure the ongoing revision and communication of production schedules, labor loading and capacity/resource requirements using engineering and production specifications. Where applicable, ensure ongoing accuracy with master production schedules and that Material Requirements Plan (MRP) and Just in Time (JIT) and cGMP principles and philosophies are adhered to in establishing schedules and plans.

   Receive information from and provide information/guidance to production facilitators, customer service associates, expediters, buyers and manufacturing and engineering management to ensure total awareness and control of production order status and work in progress inventories including quantity accuracy, and adherence to established schedules.

   Implement corrective action to respond to schedule delays; schedule revisions and update engineering change notices, labor/material shortages and backlogs in the scheduling system on a regular basis. Where possible, facilitate innovative problem resolution.

   Prepare periodic capacity, efficiency, backlog and inventory reports to the Leadership team.

   Convert customer forecasts into long-term capacity planning, providing recommendations to management on optimizing resource utilization.

   Ensure procedures and processes/systems are followed to provide 100% accuracy and that required reporting information is available as required.

   Recommend overtime requirement to the Leadership Team.

   Confirm delivery date to CSA.

   Responsible to contribute to their team and throughout the company, whereby, reinforcing our team-based environment.

   Take the necessary initiatives to satisfy the customer, without compromising safety and quality, and always following procedures.

   Other duties as assigned.

  Qualifications/Educational Requirements

   BA/BS Degree in logistics, manufacturing or resource management related program or equivalent.

   3-5 years exp. in supply chain role preferably in planning/procurement in packaging or pharmaceutical industry.

   3 years (minimum) experience in planning/scheduling production operations preferable in the folding carton, contract packaging or pharmaceutical industries.

   The incumbent will be operating in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing requirements requiring strong decision-making, planning, follow-up, communication, collaboration, negotiation, organization, and systems skills.

   Strong attention to detail and systems, a sense of urgency and team, and persistence to ensure Alcan's and its customer's requirements are met.

   SAP experience preferred.

   Completion or enrollment in a production and inventory control certification program (APICS) or equivalent is a preferred asset.

   Procurement and scheduling in ERP/MRP systems, preferably SAP, Business Warehouse, MS Office, Shop Floor Data Collection, FDA, DEA, ISO, APICS cert., MRPII, JIT, Kanban, VMI, Sales and Operations Planning, consignment inventory.

   Knowledge of ERP-based scheduling and capacity analysis, make-to-order environment preferred.

   Knowledge of Shop floor data collection systems.

   Experience managing Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for on-time delivery, schedule adherence, inventory turnover, OEE.

   Knowledge of Business acumen, supply chain principles, lean six-sigma, cGMP's, ISO, FDA and OSHA regulations.

   Awareness of objectives and organization of the company.

   Strong decision-making, communication, analytical, collaborative, negotiation, and systems skills.

   Strong Continuous Improvement and problem-solving, Six Sigma, Kaizen.

   Strong PC, e.g., Excel, Access, Word

   Proficient in English reading and writing skills

   Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational abilities.

   Ability to take initiative, maintains confidentiality, meet deadlines, and work in a team environment essential.
