Job Information
Job Summary:
Operates, installs, maintains, and repairs building equipment andsystems including fire extinguisher inspections. Performs work inaccordance with University standards and procedures for Universitybuildings and properties.
Responsibilities:
Inspects and tests building systems and equipment.Troubleshoots equipment and identifies and solves problems.Dismantles defective equipment and installs new or repaired parts.Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts ofequipment.Interprets building and equipment documentation to troubleshoot andmake repairs.Installs, repairs, and verifies proper operation of building systemsand equipment.Monthly fire extinguisher inspections. Includes a quick check that afire extinguisher is in its designated place, that it has not beenactuated or tampered with, and that there is no obvious physicaldamage or condition to prevent its operation.Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems andrelated pneumatic equipment; repairs and replaces gauges, valves,pressure regulators, and related equipment.Uses appropriate tools and equipment.Helps introduce new employees to shop protocol, procedures andcampus applications and equipment.Requisitions materials and supplies using in-house procedures asneeded. Keeps working area clean and safe.Wears and/or uses appropriate safety equipment.Uses computers to enter and access job related information.Undertakes training related to job duties as deemed necessary by theUniversity.Performs related job duties as may be assigned.Competencies:

Additional Requirements
Education, Experience, or Certifications:
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or anequivalent combination of position-related education and experience,required.Completion of job-related apprenticeship program, preferred.Advanced job-related training programs, preferred.Completion of job-related associate degree (AA), preferred.Coursework completion or certification in one or more of thefollowing core competencies - HVAC, basic electrical, plumbing,piping, and fluid-handling systems, refrigeration, buildingautomation systems or an encompassing certification such as inphysical plant maintenance, preferred.Experience:
Four years related experience required.Licenses and Certifications:
Current valid driver\'s license.Other licenses or certificates needed for this position as requiredby law required.Technical Knowledge or Skills:
Demonstrated ability to access computer programs and use or learnbasic computer operations related to position requirements.Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents.Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical functions relevant tothe position.Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity and bephysically capable of strenuous activity over extended periods oftime.Must be able to lift and mo e loads appropriate to job requirementsand be able to bend and work in a kneeling position for periods oftime.Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, be capable of working atheights as required, be able to enter and work within tight spaces,and be able to withstand hot and cold temperatures.Pay Range:
