The Opportunity with McKinstry
We are currently seeking a Building Energy Analyst to join McKinstry as a member of our growing Technical Services team in Portland, OR . McKinstry supports clients and their facilities throughout the life of a building; the Technical Service team specifically focuses on the optimization and energy efficiency of existing buildings with a uniquely technical consultative approach. We work directly with owners to help them make effective decisions that improve the efficiency, comfort for occupants and lifespan of their buildings. In particular, this role will support Building Performance Standards such as Washington’s CBPS, Oregon’s BPS and the City of Seattle Building Tune-Up.
This role will be split between data analysis and field time performing site walks and assisting in Level 2 energy audits. In this role, you will apply energy use data from facilities to drive operational efficiency as part of our Energy Management consulting services. You will leverage experience in problem solving, systems analysis, data analysis and communication to drive sustainability and efficiency for schools, hospitals, and other large impact facilities. Your role will support delivery teams with data analysis and technical recommendations, building actionable reports and presenting them to clients.
Communication and collaboration are a large part of this role, as you will be supporting a variety of projects and interface with a wide array of stakeholders. Your role will also support the internal collaboration between teams to deliver a comprehensive roadmap that meets clients' goals while driving towards McKinstry's “Action to Impact” initiative within the built environment.

As a * * Building Energy Analyst , you will:
Job Duties, under the direction of senior engineers or project managers:
Assist clients in meeting their performance goals under a variety of nation-leading building performance standard programs:
WA Clean Building Performance Standard
Seattle Building Tune Up
Seattle Building Emissions Performance Standard
OR Building Performance Standard
Perform energy benchmarking and develop roadmaps to help clients achieve their performance targets.
Support data analysis and system troubleshooting to drive savings and optimization of mechanical, control, water, wastewater, envelope, solid waste, irrigation, and lighting systems.
Perform site walks and onsite data collection to identify energy conservation measures.
Perform building operations analysis, including calculations using Excel spreadsheets, and utility calculation tools.
Work with K-12 school and university clientstoimplement energy education and behavior sustainability programs that lead to energy- and resource-conserving behavior; deliver credible, understandable messages that influence beliefs and encourage habit change.
Collaborate across internal McKinstry teams to help coordinate and streamline the delivery of integrated services for clients.
What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry:
BA/BS degree in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, Environmental Science, Education, Technical Communications or equivalent field of study or equivalent work experience required.
Strong written and verbal communications experience desired.
Interest in and enthusiasm for investigating and improving the operations of existing buildings.
Self-starter, ability to be productive independently with direction.
Passion for energy conservation and sustainability.
Creative, problem-solver with a customer service mindset.
Knowledge and experience in energy conservation, energy efficiency, sustainability principles, and HVAC preferred.
Open to learning about energy efficiency and management.
Data analysis skills desired.
Energy Management and Sustainability Professional designations are a plus but not required.
Engineer in Training (EIT) professional certification is a plus, but not required.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
Interest in growing understandingaround energy use, sustainability, and operational optimization in buildings.

The pay range for this position is $25.66 - $38.64 per hour; however, base pay offered my vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This is a non-exempt role and will be paid hourly.. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
