  About The Opportunity

  We are seeking a full-time Bird Academy Media Assistant to join a dynamic team of educators, biologists, artists, and programmers on the Bird Academy team. Bird Academy is an online learning platform that supports an ever-growing audience of people seeking to satisfy their curiosity about birds and nature. Our learner-centered content includes 24 online courses, 8 interactives, and more than 500 educational videos. The Bird Academy Media Assistant will play a key role in the Lab's mission by producing educational video content that inspires participants to connect with the natural world and pursue lifelong learning. They will use their creative talents and media production skills to develop educational materials including instructional videos, natural history profiles, tutorials, and promotional videos for online consumption.

  As the Bird Academy Media Assistant you will be involved in all stages of the creative process including the following:

  Working with Bird Academy's content team to develop media plans so that each product meets its learning goals.Apply their video production skills to write and edit scripts.Successfully execute on-location production, and use their media management skills to log, organize, and archive video and audio content.Edit educational videos that include original footage and recordings, archival/stock footage, and animation to effectively communicate educational concepts.Audio and color correct final video product.

  This is a highly collaborative position, involving working with course designers, instructors, producers, and other talent to create educational videos that inform, inspire, and encourage behaviors that benefit the natural world.

  This position is located at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY, with a hybrid work arrangement option of two or three days expected to be on-site.

  What We Need

  The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in media production, communications or similar field with at least 2 years of experience in media production and/or video editing.

  Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.Ability to organize and shape media productions starting from script development and pre-production through to final educational products.Ability to work in a production-driven team environment and communicate effectively with a variety of contributors including external talent.Ability to occasionally travel domestically and internationally; valid driver's license and passport is required.Proficient in film editing software; Adobe Premiere preferred.Must have demonstrated ability for working collaboratively and inclusively. Proven ability to work in a team environment where cooperation between colleagues and flexibility to different styles and approaches is required.Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.

  Preferably the successful candidate will also have the following;

  Advanced training or degree in filmmaking or media studies. Experience producing educational video content, especially that relates to the environment, wildlife or conservation. Experience directing field crews and planning on-location and/or studio production, with an informed understanding of technical needs/demands associated with field assignments. Effective interviewing skills. Experience with post-production, including media management, editing, animation, audio/video technical mastering and encoding for Web delivery. Spanish language fluency. Proficiency with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Audition, and/or other Adobe applications, or other filmmaking software (e.g., Camtasia, Handbrake, Pro Tools, Izotope).
