Job Description:
GDIT assists federal, state and private grant-funding agencies helping them identify the most promising research projects to fund by conducting a fair and thorough assessment of scientific merit by a panel of expert reviewers. GDIT has the capability of working with a diverse portfolio of research programs including multiple cancer research areas (e.g. breast, prostate, lung, kidney), neurosciences (e.g. autism, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, epilepsy) and areas of interest in military health (e.g. traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, psychological health, orthopedics) plus educational research.
This position entails performing quality control reviews of scientific documents on a variety of biomedical topics. Biomedical Editors (BMEs) collaborate closely with scientific and non-scientific staff to produce scientific documents for delivery to our clients.
Primary job function will be ensuring the quality of all scientific content of documents prepared by other team members with a focus on clarity, accuracy, completeness and consistency while maintaining compliance with client requirements for all our deliverables. May perform other related duties as required or assigned and provide writing and editorial support as needed.
The ideal candidates will have experience working in the science or health publications field. We are looking for biomedical scientists with at least 2 years of scientific/medical writing and/or editing experience. This is an intermittent, fully remote position with flexible hours. Candidates should not have a current research grant or be a member of a research team applying for grants. To remain in good standing on the team, BMEs will typically work a minimum of 4-5 projects per year after training is completed. High performers work significant number of projects above the minimum. Candidates should be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week when receiving an assignment which can last 4-8 weeks in a row.
Required Qualifications:
PhD or other doctoral level degree
Minimum 2 years of scientific/medical writing and/or editorial experience in the life sciences or medical industries
Superior writing skills with full grasp of grammar, spelling and style rules. Ability to comply with quality standards guidelines and factual accuracy as required in our projects
Expert MS Office skills with a specific focus on word processing, formatting, tables, graphics, slides and templates
Ability to successfully manage simultaneous tasks/projects to completion within prescribed deadlines and with meticulous attention to detail
Desired Skills:
5+ years of experience in scientific/medical writing
Goals/results oriented and thrives in a fast paced and matrixed environment. Able to work independently
Ability to work collaboratively and to effectively maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and managers from diverse professional backgrounds
