Summary About the Position: This position is located at a hydro-electric generating facility that includes hydropower, navigation, fish passage and recreational activities. The project spans the Columbia River near the town of Umatilla OR, approximately 10 miles N. of Hermiston, OR and 30 miles S. of Kennewick, WA, which are full service communities. There is a daily van pool from the Tri-Cities. Employees working at McNary Dam and living in the State of Washington are exempt from Oregon state tax. Responsibilities Responsible for operation of juvenile fish bypass facilities. Collect and maintain data associated with the juvenile fish bypass program. Provide detailed reports to Supervisor on facility operations on a regular basis. Responsible for collecting fish data and monitoring overall fish behavior and condition. Responsible for ensuring fish facilities are operated within fish passage criteria. Coordinate with and/or assist researchers working on fish facilities. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in the collection, holding and transportation of fish to include equipment operation such as electronic fish counters, electronic valves and pneumatic gates; and scientific data collection. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
