Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry provides care for adolescents ages 12-21admitted to the hospital for evaluation, assessment, and treatment ofpsychiatric issues. Adolescents are admitted out of concern for safety and toprevent any worsening of their condition. The program is designed to encourageprogress in a therapeutic, educational, nurturing, and structuredenvironment. The adolescent unit uses a multidisciplinary approach to includeregistered nurses and behavioral health technicians to monitor the patient'sentire stay, 24/7. The treatment team of clinicians includespsychiatrists, clinical social workers, psychologists, and occupationaltherapy. The adolescent unit features an in-facility school through theColorado Department of Education. The adolescent unit comprises of 21 beds.Staffing ratios include a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 and behavioralhealth technician ratio of 1:8. These ratios create safe, dignified,individual
Job Summary
Under close supervision, responsible for providing a safe, supportive andtherapeutic environment for psychiatric patients. Provides direct patient careand may conduct therapeutic group sessions under the direction and supervisionof the RN. Provides input to the RN to help develop the plan of care andassists in carrying out the plan of care for assigned patients. Essential Functions:
Assists with admissions, discharges, transfers and appropriatedocumentation. Obtains vital signs on assigned adolescent adult, andgeriatric patients. Collects laboratory specimens on assigned patients asdirected by RN staff. (25%)Performs transportation responsibilities when requested; transportingpatients from one area to another; delivering laboratory specimens, bloodproducts, medications and other hospital/medical items to the requesteddepartments as needed; and includes access to the pneumatic tube system totransport items, including blood products and medications, to and from thetube and the desired location. (25%)Differentiates normal from abnormal findings and reports abnormal values orconditions to the RN. (EX. abnormal vital signs, safety concerns,family issues.). (20%)Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining asecure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on thejob, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities orto improve a patient's care. Provides care to patients inseclusion/restraint according to 27-10 regulations and department policy andprocedure. Is aware of legal aspects of care as defined by C.S. 27-10including patients' rights.
