  CAMP KURATLI AT TRESTLE GLEN MISSION STATEMENT:

  The Salvation Army Camp Kuratli at Trestle Glen will be a Christian sanctuary of rest, discovery, and growth to the neediest children in Oregon and Southern Idaho.

  SCOPE OF POSITION: The Behavioral Health Care Assistant will work with the Nurse, Head Cabin Leaders, Program Coordinator, and Camp Director to recognize behavioral and mental health concerns and implement behavioral management techniques and strategies, including “outside the box” ideas. This position will also assist the Summer Nurse with medication dispensing and minor first-aid issues.

  EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  Currently enrolled in a college level or higher program working towards a career in the fields of Social Services, Mental Health Care, or Medicine.

  Must have current CPR/First Aid/AED certification.

  Must have Mental Health First Aid Certification.

  Must have medication distribution certification.

  At least 3 seasons of camp experience or youth work equivalent required.

  Have a valid Driver’s License.

  21 years of age or older preferred.

  Prior leadership experience required.

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  Understand Child Development.

  Understanding of common mental health issues and neurodivergence.

  Knowledge of behavioral management techniques with successful implementation of techniques and strategies in school or group home type settings.

  Knowledge of medications used for behavioral management.

  Current de-escalation certification.

  Ability to supervise and provide guidance to staff and campers.

  Responsible individual with a desire to work with youth, teens, and young adults.

  Detail oriented.

  Self-starter.

  Team player.

  Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication.

  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.

  Strong analytical skills.

  Ability to operate telephone.

  Ability to operate a computer, including accessing and producing information.

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways to, and with campers

  Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.

  Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.

  Encourage adherence to camp & Salvation Army policies and procedures.

  Ensure and provide for the supervision and physical/emotional safety of campers and staff.

  May be required to serve as Break Day Supervisor at times during the season.

  May be requested to drive or accompany hospital transport of camper or staff.

  Participate and/or assist in summer camp programs as time permits.

  Ensure and assist in the cleanliness of your living quarters and outside areas.

  Perform any other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.

  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

  Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, hike, and twist on a continuous basis for up to 15-20 minutes.

  Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.

  Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

  Physical ability to respond to a variety of situations. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

  WORKING CONDITIONS:

  There may be phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused or frustrated.

  May be required to work in all areas of camp including, but not limited to the kitchen, dish room, laundry facility, and grounds.

  The ability to work in a distinctively Christian environment.

  Possible exposure to communicable diseases.

  Work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.

  Works around dust, odor, and high noise levels, and bodily fluids.

  MISCELLANEOUS:

  The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.

  The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check. They must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

  The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a criminal history information check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude employment. The circumstances involved in the conviction(s) will be considered.
