The Town of Boone Fire Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Battalion Chief. This employee coordinates and directs the daily duties and response of shift personnel and volunteers. Knowledge and experience working with complex incidents including but not limited to: incident command, emergency tactics, fire apparatus, the operation of pumps, fire suppression, rescue practices and hazardous materials; does related work as required. Work is often performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazard. Work is performed under regular supervision. Supervision is exercised over shift personnel and volunteers.

　　**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Thorough knowledge of fire department administration, modern firefighting techniques, methods; thorough knowledge of fire equipment and apparatus maintenance techniques, procedures and mechanics; thorough knowledge of the geography of the town including the street system, hydrants and the location of important buildings; thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment and apparatus; ability to operate equipment and apparatus safety and effectively; ability to exercise sound judgment in emergencies; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public and cooperating agencies; ability to effectively supervise emergency situations; ability to prepare and maintain detailed records and reports.

　　**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in fire science or extensive experience in fire suppression and rescue. Ten (10) years of total fire service experience with at least six (6) years as a Driver/Operator

　　**SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Possession of following certifications: Firefighter, Level II Fire Inspector with level III preferred, Level II Fire Service Instructor, Technical Rescuer, TR Ropes, Driver Operator (Pumps), Fire Officer II, and Basic EMT certificates are required. All certifications shall be recognized by the State of North Carolina. Possession of a Class B driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina is required. Must meet and maintain all department and state training and certification requirements for position. Applicants shall reside in one of the following counties: Watauga, Avery, Ashe, Caldwell, Wilkes or Johnson County, TN.
