We are recruiting for an Aviation Safety Representative who will provideoversight, expertise, and risk management support for the planning andsafe execution of all aviation operations. Oversee all programmatic aviationsafety activities, in partnership with the other agencies.
This position is required to travel at least 10% of the time.
Primary responsibilities and essential functions:-Supports crewed aerial surveys and chartered flights; authors programmaticaviation safety documents, coordinates with Aviation Program Manager reviewson crewed/chartered subcontracting documents; reviews crewed/charteredproject-specific Aviation Safety Plans (ASPs); collaborateswith assigned Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) overseeing missionexecution, when necessary; acts as a FASR supporting small uncrewedaircraft missions in absence of a FASR, as assigned.-Develops and implements aviation program documents and forms, asrequired, to ensure compliance with Order 440.2C and Aviation Management andSafety Program Description.-Serves as safety representative for aviation related matters.-Coordinates, updates, and reviews aviation program documents and forms,as required, to ensure compliance with Order 440.2C and Aviation Managementand Safety Program Description.-Serve as alternate FASR for sUAS aerial surveys, as assigned by theAviation Program Manager.-Develop and coordinate aviation program contract deliverables, as assignedby the Aviation Program Manager.-Ensure that subcontracting documents include the Order 440.2C, ContractorRequirements Document (CRD) for crewed and chartered missions.-Maintain training and certifications, as described in the AviationManagement and Safety Program description.-Maintain membership to and attend conferences (as allowed) forAssociation for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI).-Ensure subcontractors bidding on work are currently listed, and in goodstanding, on the DOE Office of Aviation Management (OAM) CommercialAviation Services (CAS) Accepted Operators List (AOL).-Collaborate and support field investigation of any sUAS or crewed accident orincident.-Maintain training and certifications for ASR role.-Other duties as assigned.
Work experience, skills, and capabilities needed:-Experience in Safety and Health.-Excellent verbal and written communication and client relation skills.-Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.-Technical writing experience.
Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiencyrequired:-Valid driver's license.-Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel)-Application of safety related concepts to field and office work.
Desirable qualifications, experience, or proficiencies of the ideal candidate:-FAA Part 107 license or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
Required Education and Years of Experience:-Bachelor's degree in aviation, systems safety, engineering, physicalscience, or related field with a minimum 5 years of relevant safety andhealth experience. Experience in lieu of education may be considered.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:Medium Work Category - The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of forceoccasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
