  Our team audits existing employers to determine that wages reported are accurate and verify that anyone paid for providing a service is correctly classified as an employee or a subcontractor. This is done by reviewing employer financial records and applying Employment Security Law. Auditors are vital in ensuring that businesses compete on an even playing field and that workers are classified correctly. Additionally, auditors will investigate tips received regarding businesses that are not registered to determine if they should be registered, and if an audit is necessary.

  Day-to-day duties:

  Examines and analyzes employer records to determine contributions due, reconcile findings on previously submitted reports, and determine the correct amount of any interest and penalties due or overpaid.

  Prepares audit reports and assembles audit schedules, tables, exhibits, and documentation to present audit findings and conclusions.

  Consults, advises, and instructs employers to maintain and increase compliance with Employment Security law and to promote employer relations.

  Conducts independent and complex audits of subject employers to determine accuracy of reporting to the department and compliance with laws, rules regulations and procedures.

  Collaborates with Employer services managers and staff to create or improve processes within the Division of Employer Services and to identify tools and/or methods to identify misclassified wages.

  Knowledge and abilities desired:

  Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, practices and procedures.

  Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  Ability to prepare complete and accurate audit reports, supporting schedules and statements

  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

  Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and oral communications.

  Ability to conduct audits of governmental units, agencies, or private businesses.

  Ability to interpret federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.

  Ability to analyze accounting data and reports, prepare audit reports and recommend appropriate corrective action.

  Ability to secure facts through investigation.

  Minimum qualifications:

  A Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and two (2) years experience in accounting/auditing -OR- a six (6) year combination of education, training, and/or experience at a professional auditing or accounting level – OR- a 5 year combination of education, training, and/or experience at a professional auditing or accounting level which includes one year experience at the Auditor I level.

  Preference will be given to those applicants:
