This work unit exists to ensure that Colorado employers are in compliance with the Colorado Employment Security Act (CESA) by obtaining facts and data through the systematic examination of their books and records. The data may be used to verify the correct premium assessment, collect missing premium and wage reports, and make legal liability determinations concerning payments for services that were not properly classified as covered employment. Positions in this unit must represent the Division of Unemployment Insurance at various appeals hearings.
The auditors perform duties, which include but are not limited to external fact-finding audit examinations on Colorado businesses books and records, independent from direct supervision, based on accepted auditing standards, to ensure uniform application, interpretation, administration, and compliance with the Colorado Employment Security Act.
These positions require that the auditor be well organized, and have the ability to coordinate with employers and implement their job duties independently. These positions may perform audits at the employer or employer's representative place of business, therefore the positions must be able to travel.
These positions are Auditor I positions. An Auditor I position receives year-long training to successfully become an Auditor II. Once the Auditor I successfully completes training and is performing at the necessary quality and performance levels the position is designed to be reallocated to an Auditor II position, and will be expected to perform duties with minimal supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Substitutions:
Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Current, valid licensure as a CPA from the Colorado Board of Accountancy or current, valid CIA certificate will substitute for the degree requirement and one year of the required experience
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a college degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration.
AND
One (1) year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position, such as experience in the following:
computation and preparation of IRS Forms 1099-MISC, Form W-2, IRS Federal Tax Returns (Sole Proprietorship, General Partnership, Limited Liability Companies; Corporations and/or S-Corporations, which includes but is not limited to forms Schedule C, Schedule C-EZ, Form 1040, Form 1065, Form 1120, Form 1120s)
computation and preparation of payroll-related activities or calculating wages and premiums forms, for instance, individual earnings records, IRS Forms 940 and 941, Unemployment Insurance forms, UITR-1, UITR-1a, UITR-3, UITR-6, and UITR-6a
preparation or review of audit work papers and worksheets after completing fact-finding examinations of records utilizing generally accepted accounting standards
performing audits or verification examinations on the accuracy of reporting systems, compliance audits, or financial audits
experience performing collection activities on debts, including assessment of penalty and interest, performing skip traces, bringing accounts current, and informing and advising account holders of obligations, policies, regulations, and consequences
Current, valid licensure as a CPA from the Colorado Board of Accountancy or a current, valid CIA certificate will substitute for the degree requirement
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Preferred Qualifications:
